Art Walters Obituary

Funeral service will be held at Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at 3 p.m. for Art J. Walters Sr., 90, who passed away on Thursday, Sept. 25, at his home in Maurice. Brother Mike Walker, pastor of East Bayou Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Mr. Walters, a resident of Maurice, was also a longtime resident of both Baton Rouge and Morgan City. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union for many years. He loved spending time at his camp located on Shell Island Pass; he was also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Mr. Walters loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved challenging his sons and grandson to games of golf. He made many lasting friendships in his lifetime. One of his favorite pastimes was drinking coffee with friends in Maurice, discussing "the same old thing." He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Canty Walters, Maurice; three daughters, Stephany LeBlanc and husband Emile, of Gonzales, Kim Robertson, of Denham Springs, and Jade Landry and husband Chris, of Maurice; two sons, Art J. Walters Jr. and wife Bonnie, of Lafayette, and Terry A. Walters and wife Sherry, of Gonzales; 19 grandchildren, William Tramel, Monica Farrar, Chelsey LeBlanc, Chris Walters, Allison Walters, Lauri Bodin, Michael Walters, Chad McIntyre, Jennifer Maxwell, Zac Walters, Skye Willis, Jaymie Walters, Dakota Walters, Chaz Dees, Shelbie Landry, Jake Landry, Grant Landry, Camryn Landry and Blake Landry; 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and longtime faithful friend Lubert Trahan. He was preceded in death by his great-grand-child, Joseph Tramel. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who visited Art during the last stages of his illness. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for all of their support. Personal condolences may be sent to the Walters family online at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
