Barbara Leonard Obituary

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:4-5, King James Version. A retired first-grade schoolteacher, a national security analyst and owner/operator of Central Health Foods Inc., she died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2011, peacefully at her home. She was 83, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and had been a longtime resident of Broadmoor in Baton Rouge since 1969. A graveside service was held at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary on Monday, June 6, at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Bill Brewer of Hospice in His Care. She is survived by her husband, Paul Haralson Leonard III; daughter, Leslie Ann Leonard; son, Scott Paul Leonard; sisters, Betty Jean Underwood Schleier and Ruth Elaine Underwood; brothers, George Dewey Underwood Jr., Timothy James Underwood and Thomas Jefferson Underwood; and grandson, Thomas Lee Richard. She was preceded in death by her father, George Dewey Underwood; and mother, Ruth Maloney Underwood. She was a 1949 graduate of Rice University. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, cooking and nutritional counseling. Special thanks to Dr. Jon Jackson, Brad Rodrigue, Dr. Patrick Gahan, Dr. Kenneth Malmstrom, Dr. Wesley Blocker, Dr. Richard Goodell Jr. and the entire treatment staff of Hospice in His Care for its assistance. In lieu of flowers, send donations in the name of Barbara Ann Underwood Leonard to either Zola Levitt Ministries, P.O. Box 12268, Dallas, TX 75225 or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, N.C. 28201-0001.
