Brian Harris Obituary

Brian Patrick Harris, age 76, of New Orleans passed away in the early morning of September 28th after a 5-year battle with cancer. During his struggle he never lost his goodness, kindness, wit and strong faith in God. Born and raised in New Orleans, he attended De LaSalle High School and Tulane University. Mr. Harris was charming, fun, intelligent and interesting and always saw the good in others. He was both respected and respectful. For all he achieved in life he could have been boastful and pretentious, but never was. After a short retirement in 1986, he found his way back into the automotive business when he purchased a Baton Rouge Chevrolet dealership which he grew into the Brian Harris Auto Group, with 5 locations and 11 factory lines. He was generous of his time and wealth, supporting Catholic charities, and many others, throughout Louisiana. Brian was a loving husband and friend to Millie for 55 years and proud father of four daughters: Patti, her husband Fred Kinsley and their children: Josh, Ryan, and Zach. Deborah, her husband Richard Martorana and their children: Chad, Taylor and Harrison. Shari, her husband Tony Nicolich and their children: Brian, Christopher and Hayley. Kelly, her husband Chris Fields and their children: Connor, Patrick and Alexandra. Survived by his brother Kerry Harris and wife Lisa of Galveston, and sister Debbie Mader and husband Jacques of Dallas. Preceded in death by two sisters: Suzanne H. Carter and Phyllis Clare Harris both of New Orleans. He will be missed by many, but has fulfilled his mission here to the utmost. He was a very rare combination; A great man who was also a good man. His legacy lives on through his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He was buried on September 30th at a private service in New Orleans. The family would like to thank Father Miles Walsh for his beautiful and touching service and continued support to the family. We would also like to thank Dr. Gerald Miletello and staff, Dr. Charles Bergreen and staff, Dr. Ronald Leo and staff, Dr. Paul Walker and staff, Dr. John Grezaffi and staff, and Dr. William Russell and staff. Also a special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge nurses Suzie Boudinot and Vicki Bergquist and all sitters from Nursing Care Connections. We will always remember Brian and the whole Harris "clan" with love and gratitude. Brian was an amazing man and an awesome example in every aspect of his life, business, family, faith and friendships. Always positive and upbeat. He was kind and thoughtful. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family during this time. The world is a better place because he was in it - and our lives were touched by his presence. Rest in peace Brian!

Millie and Family,
I still remember to this day when you walked into our Jazzercise class off of Essen Lane.....almost 30 years ago. You and Brian had just relocated to Baton Rouge and opened the dealership. We clicked immediately, and you have been in my heart since. We would meet at St. Thomas More church fair, where your grandchildren and my children attended school. I loved you then and though I have not seen you in so many years, you will always have a special place in my heart. Creighton and I are so very sorry to hear about Brian. Please know you and your family are in our prayers. Yvonne Dupont
