Darwyn Williams Obituary

"What song is it you wanna hear?" -Ronnie Van Zant. Darwyn "Pogo" Wayne Williams passed away on May 31, 2023 in Henderson, Nevada. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., in Baton Rouge on Friday, June 23 at 1:30 pm, visitation at 12:30 pm. Darwyn was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Lula and Lawrence Talbert, his grandparents, Hazel and Jesse Cowan, and his black Labrador Retriever Senor Gustavo Blackman "Blackie" Cal. He is survived by his wife Caprice Connell Williams, loving mother Dorothy B. McBride, his children Anne and Wesley Williams, their mother Carmen Jenkins Williams, his grandchildren Savannah and Nola Williams, brother Russell Williams, David Weber, stepdaughter Taylor Bull Sosa, Trevor Sosa, and loyal pups Monroe and Marilyn. Darwyn was born November 1, 1960 in Sulphur, LA and attended Zachary High School. He graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1982 with a degree in Business Law and Economics. In his senior year he served as Student Government President and was the first Student Government President to serve on the Board of Regents. He was the President and CEO of Environmental Waste Solutions since 1994 and was a brilliant innovator, public speaker, and entrepreneur. He has been featured in Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Business Start-Up Magazine, Opportunities Magazine and Small Business Opportunities Magazine. He served as a board member and President for the Country Club of Louisiana and was an active community volunteer. He was a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society and named a Best Dressed Honoree. His mother shares that, "The last 5 months of his life were particularly special as he grew even closer with his children as well as with Christ." Darwyn "Big Dog" Williams was an enthusiastic fan of the LSU Tigers as well as an avid golfer. He traveled extensively and played courses all over the United States as well as Europe and the Dominican Republic. He met some of his closest friends through his love of golf. He was quick-witted, generous, and taught his children about the importance of service work from a young age, often bringing them to the St. George fire department to fill sandbags before hurricanes. He enjoyed riding in Bacchus and Thoth, a good Cuban cigar, and Kenny Chesney. Live streaming of the service will be available on the church homepage at www.olomchurch.com and later will be uploaded to www.youtube.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that all donations be made to The O'Brien House, https://www.obrienhouse.org/giving-page.

I only knew Darwyn for a short period of time, during the last 5 months or so of his life. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak and tell his inspiring story just days before I heard this news. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones

He is my son. There´s a hole in my heart full of sorrow & grief. I am working and praying to gradually move the sorrow &. grief and fill that hole full of good memories. So Darwyn you will always be in my heart. Mamma
