Emerita Bermingham

Emerita Bermingham, 95, died August 25th at a Baton Rouge nursing home. She was born August 4, 1927, in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, the daughter of Gonzalo and Fidelia Griffin. Emerita came to the United States with her three children in 1958. She married Albert Bermingham, now deceased. They lived in Lake Charles for a brief time, finally settling in Baton Rouge for their remaining years. Emerita and Albert had one child together. Emerita worked many years at Maison Blanche Department Store and its succeeding companies where she made life-long friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Sparks. Surviving are her son, Oscar Diaz and his wife, Sandra; daughter Olga Carrara and her husband John; daughter Sabrina Bermingham and her wife, Nikki Orvis; five grandchildren, Aaron Carrara, Yancey Sparks, Victor Diaz, Sabrina Fontenot, and Lauren Hamilton; Thirteen great grandchildren, Samantha and Nicholas Fontenot, Michael, Alexander, Christopher, Noah, and Cole Carrara, Milla and Jackson Diaz, Noel Diaz and Westin Hamilton, and Matthew and Alexa Sparks. Emerita was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life and gave her great joy when they were around her. She was a devout Roman Catholic and had the blessing of attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion on the morning of her death. Visitation and Rosary will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70817 at 11 a.m., September 3, 2022. Interment will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, following the funeral Mass. Those who wish to remember Emerita in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) 5817 Old Leeds Rd., Irondale, Alabama 35210. EWTN was a mainstay in her daily spiritual life, and she was a regular financial supporter of the network. Emerita was a beautiful, kind, intelligent woman and her family and the world will miss her.
