Eugene Bailey Obituary

(b: 7-02-1933 / d: 12-07-2014) Born on July 2nd, 1933 in Model, Tennessee, raised in Murray, Kentucky and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was a graduate of Murray Training Institute, Class of 1951. Preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Sylvia Hill Bailey. The father of two sons, Roger Eugene Bailey of New Orleans and Frederick Miles Bailey of Baton Rouge. Grandfather of two, Olivia Theresa Bailey and Catherine Hill Bailey both of New Orleans. Preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Eugene Bailey and Opal Miles Bailey, and a brother Max Bailey. Many of his friends and acquaintances will remember him in recent years as a sales associate at Bowie's Outfitters. His career in sales spanning over 50 years in Baton Rouge, started in the camera department at Stroube's Drug Store on Third Street. From that beginning he advanced his career at Southern Camera where he worked for many years before partnering with Ray Hoover to open The Camera House on Government Street. He went on to establish Bud's Photo Supply in the mid 1970's. He would go on to pursue other interests by joining the Steinberg's Sporting Goods team where he managed the Connell Village Store. He is also remembered later in his career by those that frequented Mayer and Company. Always a romantic and a true cowboy, a beloved family man, creative and innovative, Bud was a mentor to many and an inspiration to all. In the true spirit of his alter-ego "The Silver Kid", he would want all his family and friends to remember him fondly as he rides off into the sunset in search of his beloved Sylvia. With that thought in mind, we will honor Bud's life with a celebration at Rabenhorst (East) Funeral Home on Sunday January 11th, 2015 at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to visit with family from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Friends and Family are encouraged to make donations to St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge.

I have many fond memories growing up with Rebel (Roger) and Freddie and visiting in their home. Their mom and dad were always very hospitable and kind. May your fond memories of them give you comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Bud Bailey was as fine as they come. It was a pleasure to have known him. Indeed, he will be again with his lifelong love Sylvia, who was also, as much, an angel.
