Genny Kirby Obituary

Our Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Genevieve Comeaux Kirby of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, departed this life for her eternal reward on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, which was her 87th birthday. She was an amazing, wise and selfless woman of God who lived her life with one focus: to please God and love people. Though Genny's name never appeared in the "Who's Who" section of the newspaper, she was known in all of heaven for being a lover of God who dispersed His grace wherever she went. Whether she was playing tennis, serving homeless pregnant girls, taking in the needy to live in her home, teaching the broken and hurting the Word of God, she lived out her faith everyday in serving the practical needs before her. She was born on January 24, 1937 in Eunice, Louisiana, to Lena and Rodney Comeaux. She attended St. Edmund's High School in Eunice and then graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a degree in Business. She was married to James Patrick Kirby of Kearny, New Jersey on September 2, 1961, and made her home in Baton Rouge. Genny would have told you that her greatest accomplishments in life were her husband, children and grandchildren. Genny lived to serve and teach others everything that God had taught her. Some of her wisdom included: Put Jesus first; everything else is secondary. Your thoughts determine your feelings which then produce your actions. God's Word has the answer to any problem you may have. Drinking more water will cure most of your problems. A daily walk is mental therapy. Praising God will chase away depression. When you have a problem that you can't resolve, go be a blessing to someone else. Genny is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James Patrick Kirby (Jim), her four children, Michael Patrick Kirby (Antoinette Kirby), Kevin Jude Kirby (Robbie Lynn Kirby), Suellyn Charbonnet (John Paul Charbonnet), and Erin Claire Morar (Douglas Morar), as well as her grandchildren, Andrew Ryan Kirby (Miranda Kirby), Crystal Danielle Cox, Anna Kathryn Charbonnet, John Michael Charbonnet, Peyton Kirby Morar Bundrant (Noah Bundrant), Clarke Douglas Morar and Zoe Claire Morar and her brother, John Comeaux. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Rodney Comeaux, her brothers, James and Russell Comeaux and her grandson, Joel Charbonnet. A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, and the service will follow at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woman's New Life Clinic (www.womansnewlife.com), 761 Colonial Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 or The Mission on the Mountain (www.themissiononthemountain.com).

Michael and Toni, Thank you for including that beautiful picture of Genny. Those beautiful eyes were always on the lookout for someone that she could help with wisdom and encouragement. I claimed family membership because we considered ourselves sisters. So even though only a small amount of time has passed since she left, I feel her here with me everyday.

Mrs. Kirby was a special person in my life-full of inspiration and guidance. She had a beautiful energy. She raised a beautiful family and had a wonderful husband. I have many fond memories of her growing up with Erin, also a dear person. She holds a special place in my heart. I know she rests in peace in Heaven.
