James Lee "Toodles" D'Amico

James D'Amico Obituary

He started his journey to Heaven on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at age 73. We lost a great father and "Greyfather." Devoted to his family and a friend to all, he was always ready to help anyone in need. Known as "MacGyver," if it was broke he could fix it. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and school and more recently of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville. Blessed with a great wife of 52 years, Erika Abbott D'Amico, together they shared their endless love with their children: daughter, Janice D'Amico Capone and her husband, Brent; sons, James "Mike" D'Amico and his wife, Noel, and Brit D'Amico and his wife Francine. He also lives on through his grandchildren, Cheryl Swearingen, Mary Ann Johnson and her husband, Brandon, Ashley Capone and her fiancé, Trey Berniard, Erika and Joey Capone, Connor and Cammie D'Amico; and great-grandson, Cole Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Daniel "Skip" D'Amico, Grace Russo, Marie Ransome, Sallie Segura and her husband, Charles, Suzette D'Amico, and Sam J. D'Amico Jr. and his wife, Carole. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam J. and Marie D'Amico; mother-in-law, Else Hofmeister; brother-in-law, Helmut Meier; sister, Sammye Segura; and sister-in-law, Dorothy D'Amico. He was a graduate of Catholic High of Baton Rouge, Class of 1955, and an Army veteran. He retired as a data processing manager for the city of Baton Rouge. He was instrumental in early computerization of the Baton Rouge Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffs Office. Thank you to all the compassionate staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Dr. Carl Luikart and Dr. C. Andrew Smith. Special thanks to Dr. Stacy Mandras and Dr. Hector Ventura, the compassionate nurses and staff of Ochsner Hospital, New Orleans, for their dedicated, affectionate and loving care which gave us great comfort. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Troy Morris for his endless help and support and to the many other friends who have encircled Jim and Erika with love on this journey. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, Catholic High School or Sacred Heart Elementary School. Dad loved to see the smile on mom's face when he gave her yellow roses.

My dear family, all of you have been in our thoughts and prayers daily throughout this battle you have been fighting. Its always difficult to express words of sorrow to provide comfort. We are so sorry for the early loss of Uncle Toodles. Memories of him at Mawmaw's and Pawpaw's at Sunday dinners, good times at False River, and most recent times throughout the last year have brought frequent smiles to my face in the last few days. I know you all will miss him alot. Stay strong in your faith and as a family. Love, Sandi, Kyle and Brad
