James S. Mathis Jr.

1952 - 2023

October 25, 1952 - June 24, 2023. A ceremony celebrating the life of James S. Mathis Jr., will be held from 4-6 pm Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs. Visitation will begin at 4 pm with service following at 6 pm. James was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the 25th of October 1952. James was born to the union of James and Mary Beddingfield Mathis and went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at his home in Ethel at the age of 70 years old. He was a retired industrial electrical superintendent. He had a passion for cooking, even had dreams of opening his own restaurant. He enjoyed being an outdoorsman, spending time with his family and the LSU Tigers! Although, what he cherished the most was cooking with his loved ones, it wouldn't have been the same without the stories he told and the traditions he passed down. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodney Meyer and son Timmy. Survivors include children, Tracy (Cory), Lauren, Jacob, August, Hannah (Da'Quan); brothers Charles Mark and Jesse Wayne Mathis; grandchildren Shelby, Jaden, Brooklyn, Lyriq, Quintin, Nevaeh, Josie and Tripp; also survived by a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
