James Gregory Thames

1955 - 2024

James Gregory Thames went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 30, 2024 at the age of 68. James was born September 16, 1955 in Ellisville, MS to Keowen "Jack" and Marietta Thames. He moved to Louisiana at the age of 8. He was an avid fan of his beloved Ole Miss Rebels (Hotty Toddy). After graduating from Poydras High School he went on to barber school where he practiced for many years. After the death of his father, James took over the family business of Tiger Drive Inn in New Roads for over 25 years until his health took a downward turn. James was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lakeland Council. He is survived by his daughter, Haley Bourque (Rob), Jade Sonnier (Charlie), Jaime Thames, step daughter Lauren Murray, his first love and caregiver, Claire Thames. James is also survived by his grandchildren, Logan, Eli, Lily, Sawyer, Quinn, and Chloe, his sister, Mary Denise Thames, nephew Wade, nieces Brandy, Reagan, and Mallory, his sister-in-law, Nita; his best friends, Rusty Marler and James Stucks; and his beloved fur baby, Adele. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marietta Thames; brother, John Richard Thames; special aunt, Sara Serio and his great niece, Mary Laine Thames. A special thank you to Andre Romeo for helping tend to some of James' needs. James was hard on the outside but a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He will be truly missed and will never be forgotten. A private service and burial will be held for James. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Janell LaCombe Cancer Fund. When Jesus walked out of that tomb it meant death has no sting and life has no end for James has been transformed by the blood of the Lamb.
