James Michael "Mike" Wartelle

A Mass of Christian Burial for James "Mike" Michael Wartelle will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington. Father Jared Suire will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. The Readings for the Mass will be done by Noah "Lucy" Wartelle and Mary Catherine Cramer. Gift Bearers will be Graham Wartelle and Max DeRoche. The musical selections will be provided by Millie Boudreaux, Annie Cramer and JP Porier. Mike, age 65 and a resident of Washington, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017. Mike served on the Board of St. Landry Parish Farm Bureau. In 2008, he was named Rotary Club Farmer of the Year. Mike enjoyed farming, golf and raising cattle. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dianna Vidrine Wartelle of Washington; son, Jeff Wartelle and wife, Sheila of Carencro; daughter, Leslie Wartelle DeRoche and husband, Craig of Duson; sisters, Peggy Cary and husband, Johnny of Washington and Noah "Lucy" Wartelle of Baton Rouge; and grandchildren, Seth DeRoche, Max DeRoche and Graham Wartelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Neecie Wartelle; and brother, Randy Wartelle. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Tuesday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary will be recited on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jeff Wartelle, Craig DeRoche, Seth DeRoche, Remi Wartelle, Steve Bordelon and Earl "Pickle" Pickney.
