Jeanette Risinger Obituary

Jeanette Marie Risinger, "J. Risinger", age 76, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went to heaven, 07/08/2023. J. was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on 8/11/1946 to Alicia Mary Mooty and Fred Self Risinger, Jr. Her father, Fred Risinger, was a B-52 pilot and Colonel in the United States Air Force, so she spent her early years living in several different U.S. airbase station cities, as well as Japan. They eventually came to settle in Bossier City, Louisiana at the Barksdale Air Force Base. She attended Bossier High School and graduated in 1964. J. then went on to get her Bachelor's Degree in education at Louisiana State University, graduating in 1970. After graduating LSU, she decided to settle down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she started teaching elementary school in the East Baton Rouge school system. After several years of teaching, she discovered that her passion and calling was to be a school counselor. She then went to graduate school at LSU, as she continued teaching. She earned a Masters of Education in Guidance in 1975 and was also certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor, which qualified her to be a guidance counselor in the school system. She worked as a counselor for the next 30 years, until she retired in 2005. Her calm presence and loving kindness blessed every student that had the pleasure of knowing her. She provided a safe space and undivided attention for her students who were navigating rough times in their home life. She married Rigsby John Frederick in 1984 and they were blessed with their daughter, Paris Frederick, late in life when J. was 44 years old. She focused on being an outstanding mother and overall wonderful human being to those who she encountered. Her counseling didn't stop when she left the office. She had a way of instantly forming meaningful connections with people. She always said "If you think something nice, say it. People don't get enough compliments." Her loving words flowed effortlessly, and she brightened the spirits she interacted with daily. Within a simple elevator ride with a stranger, she would somehow come to know the person's life story by the time they reached the 2nd floor. One of her favorite things to ask young adults was "What school did you go to?" She loved nothing more than to run into her graduated students out in the world and wish them the best. An absolute class act in all she said and did. In her retirement, she frequently mentioned what a great life she had and that if she died tomorrow, she would be happy. Starting in 2018, she began her journey with Lewy Body Dementia. It's a disease that unfortunately progresses with memory and physical decline in parallel. She handled it with absolute grace and a strong spirit daily. She was blessed to be cared for by her loving caretakers and family in her final years and moments. She is survived by her daughter, Paris Frederick, and her brother David Risinger. A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00p.m. July 15th 2023 at the home of Rigsby Frederick. 16056 Highland Bluff Ct. Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Casual and cheerful attire is welcomed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate if you feel led to the Lewy Body Dementia Research Fund at the American Brain Foundation. "Unconditional love does not ask for anything in return. This pure love never creates dependencies or debts. It simply exists. An absolute energy, it never ends. It instantly connects lifetimes centuries apart and promises that all loved ones will be entwined throughout eternity." - Brian L. Weiss.

I remember JR's digital display clock radio, like the one in Ground Hog Day. It's been over fifty years, and I just found out. I miss her even more now ...

The best two years of my life as an LSU undergraduate were 1973-75, for that is when I met David Risinger, in an economics class, and later his lovely sister, Jeanette (known as JR then, later just J). We had a lot of fun together, for sure, but it was a time of great change in each of our lives. Looking back almost 50 years later, the changes were good and the memories remain vivid. David and Jeanette were older than I but they opened their arms in friendship to this boy from Jackson, Mississippi. Once I left Baton Rouge we never saw one another again. After graduation in 1975, I moved to Austin, TX, then back to Jackson, and years later to Austin again. We reconnected briefly in late 2008, through email and phone calls, but work, logistics, and bad timing prevented our getting together. In other words, life itself.

Whenever I receive an issue of the LSU Alumni Magazine, the first place I look is In Memoriam. I´ve never recognized a name from my era until I saw Jeanette´s name in the current issue. I cannot describe how sad it made me feel. I´ve been thinking about her ever since, and how life, with all its goodness also deals us some wretched blows. I´ve certainly had my share, as have we all, and now Jeanette has left us. All those years ago, I saw the light that radiated from this warm and caring woman, who had not yet turned 30. Reading all the wonderful tributes from the many people she touched and loved, and who loved her, I can see that light became a beacon for all of them.

I don´t know if anyone in her family will read this. I wanted to write it anyway, to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I believe the light from some stars will always remain lit, and Jeanette is one of those stars.

I taught with JR at Dufocq Elementary until we needed a change to older children. We did a few fun things together before school and life changes took over. Saw JR at Perkins-Rowe and said we´d get together it just never did! We liked to share a glass of wine. She was definitely a free spirit. Unfortunately I never met her daughter, Paris, an unexpected wonderful surprise , as Jenny and I were the same age!! Rest in Peace JR

Dear David, Paris, and Rigsby,
You all know that "JJ" and I go back almost 50 years. She was older than I, and my love for her was pure devotion. She had a way of being a mentor as well as a friend. We shared some crazy times in the LSU days, but I have always said that she truly saved my life. She taught me about a healthy lifestyle when college life was anything but! I left Baton Rouge for Honolulu, New Orleans, and ultimately Shreveport, but we always remained in touch. In my travels, I would always stop and spend a night at her house, and we called it the "J Spa". She was such a soothing presence, as her students and friends well know. Her illness was devastating to me, and Baton Rouge will never be the same for me without her. Her beauty (inside and out) and her kind and gentle spirit will live on in Paris, but I will always miss my dear JJ.

Jeannette and I were friends in high school and thru college at LSU, We were roommates briefly after college before she met and married Rigsby Frederick. We all spent fun times on the Amite River and running in fun runs in New Orleans. I can attribute my entry into a career into Real Estate to Jeanette. She called me and said she could not take teaching any more as a third grader thru a desk at her. She said lets go take this real estate
So we did.class at LSU. After 30 minutes into the class final, she got up and walked out. I was thinking to myself she must be really smart as I struggled with the test. Afterwards, I found out she said to herself this is not for me. She went on to get her masters degree and became a school counselor and I went into real estate .I have fond memories of our friendship to this day.

My dear friend J was such a good person and was devout in her faith. We enjoyed bible studies and services at the Chapel as well as Healing place. I met J in 2006 when I moved to Baton Rouge after being flooded with Hurricane Katrina. We enjoyed movies on Sunday afternoons at Perkins Rowe during retirement with a group of friends. I will always miss her compassionate smile and loving ways! I know we will meet again someday soon! My condolences to Paris her daughter who was steadfast in her care with handling all the details with grace! Her mother was always so proud to have such an outstanding accomplished young woman being able to manage her care. J was so blessed! Now God holds her in the palm of His Hand!

I am so sad to read about her passing. She was my school counselor when I was in elementary school at River Oaks. I will never forget one of her methods of teaching us to self soothe by hugging ourselves and saying, "I love myself. I love myself. I feel fantastic!" Over the years I have had to use this skill several times.

David,
I am so sorry to hear this. Funny how life moves. Jeanette and I had such a history during the college years. I remember our wild ride in her blue mustang to spend the summer in Carmel. We made a point to find each other several years ago and got to catch up after a lifetime. She was so full of love and joy. I will always treasure that I knew both of you. My prayers for your peace and comfort.

David,
So sorry to read of J's passing. We had some graduate classes together at LSU in the 70's. We got to be good friends. Over the years I have thought of her and said I was going to get in touch with. She was truly a great person. You and I had some classes together before you went into the military full time.
