Jimmie Pittman Obituary

Jimmie Lathan Pittman, 64, of Kentwood, passed away at North Oaks Hospital on Friday, March 31, 2017. Born February 8, 1953 in Hammond. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lathan Pittman and Amelia Carrier Pittman and his father in law, Alex A. Rodriguez. He was an active member of Spring Creek Baptist Church and was employed with Bayou Steel Corporation for 35 years. Jimmie was a graduate of Hammond High School and a part of the football state championship team 1970. He also graduated from Auburn University in 1976, where he played college football for four years. Some of his favorite pastimes and fondest memories were enjoying breakfast and visiting with the other early birds in town, raising beef cattle and tending to his farm, camping with his family, building celebratory bon-fires, and riding in his truck with his ferocious fur-buddy, Jake. Activities that he enjoyed with his family were snow skiing, water skiing and "frogging" on the river, and attending Auburn football games, including the recent Sugar Bowl Championship game. He was a great athlete and a lover of all sports. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Deborah "Debi" Rodriguez Pittman; daughters, Cassie Amelia Pittman and Caitlin Renee Pittman and fiancé, Kelvin Blades; sons, Chad Simpson and wife, Shelby, and Cory Simpson and wife, Susan; sisters, Linda Pittman Rose and Allan, Diane Pittman McCain and Sandy; four grandchildren, Chelsi Simpson, Tyler Simpson, Sophia Simpson, Dalton Simpson; mother in law, Esther Triche Rodriguez and many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at Spring Creek Baptist Church on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 5 PM until 9 PM. Services will continue at 11 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to McKneely Funeral Home of Amite and Kentwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring Creek Baptist Church in the name of Jimmie. Condolences may be left in Jimmie's online memorial at http://www.mckneelys.com.

I remember Jimmie as a tyke - before Diane was born. We loved that family. A fun memory I have of Jimmie has to do with his visiting our house with Amelia and Linda. We had the back axle of a tricycle that we gave him as a barbell. He lifted it over his head and fell over backwards. Maybe that was the start of his athleticism! Rest in peace, Jimmie. And warm wishes to Linda and Diane and all his family.
