John Wayne Artigue Sr.

John Wayne Artigue Sr., lovingly called Pappy by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed at his home in Addis on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the age of 72. He was a native of Port Barre and resident of Addis. John was a retired maintenance superintendent for the Town of Addis, a retired long shoreman and carpenter. Visitation will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly on Friday, November 1, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m., celebrated by Rev. Arun John. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Pallbearers will be "J.J." Artigue, Tyler and Dane Guitreau, Wayne, Myles and Blain Delapasse, and Terry Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Artigue Jr., David and Leonard Delapasse. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Phylis Delapasse Artigue; their son, John "J.J." Wayne Artigue Jr. and his wife Lisa Guitreau; three grandchildren, Dane Guitreau and wife Jordyn, Megan Trabeaux, and Tyler Guitreau and wife Meghan; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Brogan Guitreau, Emmalyn Trabeaux and Dominik Self; siblings, Daniel Artigue Jr., Delores Devillier, Della Prudhomme, Betty Moreau and husband Mike; sister-in-law, Joyce Artigue; and siblings and their families of Phylis Delapasse Artigue. John was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Sr. and Gladys Darbonne Artigue; infant siblings, Leon Artigue, siblings, Kirt Artigue; in-laws, Joseph and Lilith Besson Delapasse. John was a volunteer firefighter for the town of Addis for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and dominos, and camping with their camping buddies Ray and Terry Rivet. John was known for lending a helping hand to anyone in need, especially his neighbors. His biggest joy was seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren smile.
