John Wylie Harris Jr.

A retired assistant director of Louisiana State Probation and Parole and a resident of New Roads, he died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Pointe Coupee Healthcare, New Roads. He was 70, a U.S. National Guard veteran and a native of New Iberia. Visiting at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Roads, on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Bob Stine. He is survived by his wife, Leah Raye Mougeot Harris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gretchen and Jody LeBlanc, of Baton Rouge, and Cassie and Price Granger, of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Scott W. Harris, of Baton Rouge; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynne and Raymond Landry, of Morganza; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Carol Harris, of Oregon; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Alyssa LeBlanc; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Charlotte Landry Harris; and a sister, Gayle Harris Hammond. Pallbearers will be Raymond, Patrick and Timothy Landry, Jody LeBlanc, Price Granger and Will Benton. He was a member of the Louisiana National Guard and was called into active duty during the Berlin crisis. An avid hunter, fisherman and golfer, John was a member of the Dirty Dozen Hunting Club and the False River Golf and Country Club. Special thanks to Dr. Brian LeBlanc and Pointe Coupee Hospice.
