John Randolph Taylor

John Randolph Taylor was born on August 24, 1937 and passed away on August 1, 2022 at the age of 84. He was raised in Magnolia, MS and graduated from Magnolia High School. Visitation will be on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Terry's Creek Baptist Church in Magnolia, MS from 9:00 am until service time at 11:00 am conducted by Rev. LaVerne Summerlin. Burial will follow at the Terry's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In 1958, John Randolph began his law enforcement career with the Baton Rouge Police Department. Upon his graduation from the Training Academy, he began foot patrol in the city of Baton Rouge, followed by several years of service as a Motorman in the Traffic Division. He then transitioned into the Bureau of Investigations and served as both a Detective and Narcotics Officer. Ultimately, John Randolph achieved the rank of Captain over Uniform Patrol until his retirement. He was a beloved Baton Rouge Policeman for 32 years. He was also a member of the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police. John Randolph was a long-time member of the Terry's Creek Baptist Church, as well as a dedicated Mason for 49 years. He served as a member of both the Plains Lodge #135 in Zachary and the Olive Lodge #52 in Clinton. He loved his career as a policeman, training horses, riding motorcycles, and tending to both his cattle and John Deere tractors. He enjoyed gathering with family, telling old stories, and most of all participating in his grandchildren's activities. He is survived by his son, Randall Lyn Taylor of Ethel, granddaughter Brittany Taylor, grandson Mason Taylor and Shelby Romero, daughter-in-law Linda Taylor, sister Lula Lea Robins, sister-in-law Loyce Taylor and numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Cutrer Taylor, parents Meritte and Elliot Taylor, siblings David Taylor, Marland Taylor, Robert Taylor, and Annelle Gray. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Terry's Creek Baptist Church general fund.
