Johnny Ray Shelton

1949 - 2024

Johnny Ray Shelton, 74 years old, beloved spouse and son, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on September 9, 1949, born to Betty Truett and John Shelton in Monroe, LA. Johnny worked in the paper industry for fifty years, where he met some of his lifelong friends. Once he retired, he enjoyed spending his free time hunting, fishing, and watching sports, but his most cherished moments were time spent with his grandchildren. Behind closed doors, Johnny was cheering on the LSU Tigers, but when his die-hard LSU fan sons were around, he always rooted for the other team. True to his spirit, he could not resist a dad joke and poking fun. In honor of Johnny, his granddaughter, Brooke, has plans to shine up his boat and get it back on the water with a sticker saying, "PawPaw's wishes." Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Shelton; sons, Darrell and Shannon Shelton; grandchildren, Nathan and Brooke Shelton; and great-grandchild, Kenna Shelton. Johnny is preceded in death by his father, John James Shelton; mother, Betty Sue Truett; grandchild, Nicole Ashton Shelton; brother, Bobby Ray Shelton; sister, Karen Sue Bailey. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Reggie Willcutt.
