Karen Forbes Melancon

1942 - 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Forbes Melancon, age 81, announces her peaceful passing, on April, 20th, 2024 at 3:30 am. Born in New Roads on August 17, 1942, she graduated from Poydras High School in Pointe Coupee Parish. She married the love of her life, Morris "Mo" Melancon, on November 26, 1964, and moved to Morganza raising their family until Mo's passing on June 1, 2017. Karen enjoyed a career for decades in banking with Bank of New Roads and finally Regions Bank, retiring as the Morganza Branch Manager. Karen, lovingly known as "Kakky," was a personality that was larger than life. She had the amazing ability to make everyone laugh and feel at ease in her company. Her passions included her family, gatherings, cooking, playing cards (especially her weekly booray games at the Red Monkey) and the "occasional" visit to the casino. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, tenacity, laughter, love, and a lifetime full of memories we will all treasure and hold close to our hearts. She is preceded in death by her father Kermit Forbes, mother Elsie Morel Forbes and her devoted and loving husband Morris Melancon. Kakky leaves behind her legacy to her children Mitch Melancon and Susie Melancon, grandchildren Allie Green, Maria Landry, Ivy Melancon and Ory Melancon and great grandchild Noella Rogers. She is survived by her siblings, Phyllis Sanders, John James Forbes and his wife Debbie, Kermit Forbes Jr. and his wife Odette, and Patrice Forbes and her wife Deanna Peden. There are no words to express our gratitude to the personal attention the staff of Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Maurice, Louisiana for the care, support, kindness and love you provided for our beloved Kakky. The visitation will take place at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganza on Wednesday April 24, 2024, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial held at 11:00 am. Pallbearers will be Mitch Melancon, Kyle Miller, William Aucoin, James Landry, Paul Green, and Brett LeBlanc.
