I just finished reading every line of all 22 pages. Never have I seen a guest book with such heartfelt outpourings of love and respect. What an amazing man Lloyd must have been. I only met him once for an hour at a Vietnam veterans reunion. I now realize what an honor it was for me. You people from this part of Louisiana have really made a tremendous
impression on me. This book is truly a thing of beauty. I'm very sorry for your loss. God Bless your community.

To the Lindsey Family,
I met Lloyd about ten years ago as a fellow member Leadership Louisiana class for that year. He was my favorite classmate and during the following years I saw him many times, often at the state capital. If you felt bad, Lloyd made you feel good, if you felt good Lloyd made you feel great. Lloyd cast a long shadow and while none can feel the loss of this wonderful man as you, his family, does know that he left a warm glow in the hearts of so many people that had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. This will always keep the spirit of his life with us.
My sincere sympathy,

His family was his passion, as well as children. He was truly an advocate for children and their education. We will continue to strive for the excellence he instilled in us in his many years as Superintendant.

To Lloyd's Family:

We were so shocked when we heard the news of Lloyd's passing. Mary and I taught with Lloyd at Crestworth Junior and I have worked with him as Director of SACS. Lloyd was a great educator at Crestworth and continued to be the same throughout his professional career. Mary called Lloyd "Be Tall" at Crestworth and would often tell some of her "Be Tall" stories. We will miss him and our thoughts are with you.

April 20, 2009

It's Monday morning and it will soon be time to go to the office. I can hear Lloyd now walking down the hall on our side of the building calling the name of the person to whom he wanted to speak. Those of us who worked with Lloyd at the Central Office will have different memories based on our relationship with him. He would always come in on Monday morning looking for the "Preacher" as he called me, and he always had the same question; "Did the devil take a beating at church on Sunday?"
He was so intrigued by my ministry at Tunica United Methodist and would tease me (in front of others, of course) about becoming a big TV evangelist. He would want to know when the church was going to buy me a car and when we were going to begin construction on a new building!
I always got a laugh out of his comments. What a great way to begin the week!
And, he was so excited for us when he found out we were going to be grandparents for the first time. He loved his grandchildren so much, and he was so happy that Jean and I were finally going to have one as well. When Nathan was born, just over a month ago, he told me to go to Virginia, enjoy the baby, and not to worry about anything at the office. He was so excited for us, and I will always remember and appreciate that about him.
Lloyd was truly a man of "Big Ideas" and he loved this school system so much. He wanted nothing but the best for the students. We will work extremely hard to continue his legacy.
May God comfort each of you in the way that only He can do. And may his love and grace be upon you, today, and in the days ahead.
In His Love and In His Name,
Mike & Jean Clark

True story: Mr. Lindsey would see my daughter at school. He would walk up to her in front of her friends, and he would put his arm around her and jokingly say " Isn't she doing great. Shes been smoking since Bains but now shes on the patch. Baby steps." That was Mr. Lindsey. My daughter asked me, who is going to tell her to stay on the patch now. He had such a presence about him. I feel like a local living legend is now a local legend. I know students young and old will talk about him forever. The programs at school won't be same without the long, long encouraging speeches. We will miss you and your bow tie.

Words can not express the way my heart got heavy when I heard the news about Mr. Lindsey. I was at work on break and received a text message saying he was in the hospital, about 15 minutes later I received an email from the Bank of St. Francisville saying he had passed. I couldn't believe that this great person was gone. That big smile, those little bow tie, the words of encouragement, and the great graduation speeches will surely be missed. Mr. Lindsey was my friend I loved him and respected him. I will surely miss coming to events at the school and not seeing him or hearing him. The only words of comfort that comes to my mind right now are please remember the good times and special messages that Mr. Lindsey gave you keep them dear and near to your hearts.

Dear Marsha & family: words cannot describe how shocked, stunned & saddened we were to hear of Lloyd's death. And yet, as we grieve over the loss of a dear friend; we derive a tremendous amount of comfort in knowing that Lloyd is in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Knowing he had that personal relationship with Jesus Christ brings joy to an otherwise harsh reality of his physical death.
Those of us who served with 2ndLt. Lloyd Lindsey with Golf Co. 2/7; we knew him to be one of the finest Officers we had the honor & privlege of serving under.
The memory of our leader & friend will live in the hearts & minds of those who were blessed with knowing Lloyd Lindsey.
He was an outstanding Officer who demonstrated a genuine caring attitude for the men under his command.
Semper Fidelis Lt. Lloyd, We look to the day when we, like yourself, will get to stand guard duty in Heaven.
We love you. You were that friend that the Bible speaks of that sticks closer than a brother.

To the Lloyd Lindsey Family: So sorry to hear of Lloyd’s passing. He was a greatest guy!, but I don’t have to tell “you all” that. I, of course, will always remember him as my Platoon Commander in Vietnam. I was his first radioman when he came to the Vietnam Bush as a 2nd LT. Those were tough times we went though back then. Being his radioman meant that I was right there, basically an arms length away when we were on operations and near by on Combat Bases. You get to know people pretty darn well under those circumstances. We shared many good stories about home and life. I had the greatest respect for him as an Officer. He had a great sense of humor and we all needed that during those bad times that he lead us through. After we both had rotated out of Vietnam, he took the time to look me up in the Hospital in Bethesda Md. and we went out on the town to talk over old times. He was a good Commander and a good friend. I have always kept him in my thoughts all through the years. Recently, since the internet, it has been great to get in touch and get to see him at our Golf 2/7 reunions. He really enjoyed them and we all really enjoyed seeing him and having his participation and service to our Company Reunions. He will be always remembered and sorely missed by all! Deepest Sympathy and Condolences to all Lloyd’s Love One’s!

Dear Mrs. Marsha,
No words seem to be appropriate for times like this, but I wanted you to know how sorry I was to hear of Mr. Lloyd's death. The memories I have of both of you are priceless to me...memories of services at Grace...memories of my high school years at WCCA (what a wonderful principal he was)...memories of all the visits you both had with my Dad and Mom (Chris and Sarah Metz)...memories of those talks with Dad about corn planting or plowing with mules or logging...memories of him just sitting at their table having coffee and enjoying whatever food Mom had on the table. It's times like this when I regret not keeping in touch with you through the years, though I thought of you often. When I would visit back home, Dad and Mom always told me when Mr. Lloyd had stopped by to visit them.

Thank you for what both of you have contributed to the community, and especially for what you spoke into my life though you may not have known it.

Lloyd was one of my favorite Superintendents during my tenure with the Department of Education. He and I would have lively discussions about policy regarding students with disabilities. Even though he often told me I may be right "technically" - he was going to do what he believed was right for the students - even if it went against policy. Of course, as he said it, he was smiling and there was a twinkle in his eye. I always admired him for his education expertise, his tenacity, his belief in doing what was right for all students, his leadership and his wonderful sense of humor. Heaven has gained a great educator.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Lloyd will be missed by so many people.

Dear Marsha and Family,
Mr. Lindsey was my World History teacher at St. Francisville High School. I can recall my senior year when Gail M., Lynn J., and I wanted to skip Mr. Lindsey's class to go hang out in the gym with Coach Campbell until time for the basketball tournament. He found out that we were in the gym, and believe me we had alot of explaining to do. Mr. Lindsey wrote in my high school memory book, "I give you a hard time sometimes, but only to guide you toward excellence. I've enjoyed teaching you." He was truly a dedicated educator who touched so many lives.

I will always and forever remember the privilege and honor of working for West Feliciana Parish and Mr. Lindsey. His vision for educating the children of the parish and his unflagging enthusiasm made teaching there a memorable and wonderful experience. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

Semper Fi Lieutenant, what a tragic loss of a real leader in war and peace! We Marines of Golf 2/7 will forever remember you for your leadership, courage and empathy! You inspired many of us and gave us an example we followed throughout our lives. You taught us to be strong in adversity and later to be gracious in peace!
May you join the other Marines guarding the gates of heaven!!!

I remember Mr. Lindsey very well. He was my superintendent all through my years at West Feliciana. I remember Mr. Lindsey coming in to my 3rd grade class while we were learning our multiplication tables and would come and play to see who could say their multiplication tables the fastest. He would always win, but it was a lot of fun. Then, 9 years later, he spoke at my graduation, which was an honor for him to do. Everytime I would pass him in the halls at West Feliciana, he always had a smile on his face and greeted everyone he passed. Even after I graduated, I would see him around town and he would still remember who I was and say hello. He was a great person and I will remember him always. Family of Mr. Lindsey, I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you.
