Louis DeAngelo Obituary

Louis Vincent DeAngelo Sr. (Big Lou), 71, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021. He grew up in Bayonne, NJ, lived for a time in Parkersburg, WV, and called Baton Rouge home for 25 years. He proudly served in the US Army, owned businesses, was a talented artist, excelled at industrial sales and was the most outgoing human being to ever walk this planet. If you never met Big Lou, you're wrong, you probably did. His skill at connecting with strangers was unparalleled. Wherever he is now, he's already made many hundreds of friends, spoken to the manager, gotten free upgrades, and is on a first name basis with everyone. We will always remember his huge heart, strong handshake and generous spirit. He was a snappy dresser, a great dancer and he always smelled nice. His appetite was legendary. His paintings are beautiful. He was a family man among family men, and his wife, siblings, children and grandchildren all miss him dearly. We will not soon forget Big Lou. He is preceded in death by his parents John DeAngelo and Alfonsina Cirello, sister Janet Moller, brother Vincent Mortorano, and sister Rose Marie Mortarana. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail C. Barbour, his son Louis V. and wife Kristen and five grandchildren, his daughter Danielle C. Holschuh and husband Ben, and two grandchildren, his son Timothy E. and wife Nicole and two grandchildren, his daughter Helen Dillon and husband Bill, and two grandchildren. Also surviving are his beloved siblings: Barbara Means and husband Tom, John DeAngelo and wife Patty, Joyce Seghers and husband Andre, Robert DeAngelo and wife Cindy, in addition to dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins, too many to name, but no less beloved to Lou. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, LA, with Fr. Trey Nelson officiating.

I literally just learned of Big Lou's passing and it truly saddens me. He was a super-nice and generous person who would have given the shirt off his back to someone who needed it. Rest in Peace Big Lou.... it was an honor knowing you.

To my friend Lou who looked like he stepped right off the set of The Sopranos, I miss your larger than life persona at the Manship YMCA. You could always light up a room when you walked in. The chance of you getting upstaged?

I worked out with Lou for years at the Manship YMCA. Lou, who looked like a Mafia Wise Guy right off the Sopranos TV set, was full of fun and kept us all in stitches.

He will be missed!

I had the exceptionally good fortune to meet and get to know Louis through Foxy's Health Club. He was one of most likable individuals I've ever met. It was always a pleasure to talk to him. He also had a great sense of humor. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to buy one of his paintings.

Lou was the sweetest man! I will never forget meeting him while he was walking and bringing him home on my golf cart. He always made me smile and had the best stories. He was a true blessing to everyone who got the chance to meet him (which was everyone he came in contact with!). That sweet man never met a stranger. Prayers and blessings to his family, whom he loved dearly and spoke of often.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Lou for 5 years. I am thankful and blessed for our time together. The painting he delivered to my home for my birthday hangs on my home office wall and will always serve as a reminder of Lou in my household. His legacy will live on with the many lives he touched. Alicia and I will always remember Lou with fondness and gratitude for making the world a better place.
