Margaret Cangelosi Obituary

A longtime resident of Port Allen, Margaret Rizutto Cangelosi passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at age 85. For the last 61 of those years, she was married to Rosario Charles "Buster" Cangelosi. They met while Margaret was working at the Borden's Ice Cream Shop in downtown Baton Rouge. Buster always said that she was the sweetest thing in the place and she remained his "Sweetheart" from then on. After Buster married Margaret and moved to Port Allen, they established a warm and loving home where family and friends were always welcome, especially on Sunday for the traditional "Big Italian Meal." Margaret's life was defined by her devotion to her Catholic faith, her husband and four girls, and to her extended family and friends. In spite of her busy schedule, she always found time to volunteer at her girls' schools, to serve in the Catholic Daughters, and to attend daily Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church. Every Christmas, and most other holidays, her home was filled with beautiful floral creations and delicious Italian foods, all lovingly prepared by Margaret herself. As her illness progressed, she relied on her religious faith and the love of her family to give her the strength to continue on until finally, her life came to an end. She leaves behind a legacy of four devoted daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and cherished memories of a home and life that were truly filled with love, family, and food. Margaret is survived by her husband, Rosario Charles Cangelosi; brother and his wife, Ance V. and Mary Rose Rizutto, of Port Allen; four daughters and their husbands, Jo Carolyn and Cleveland LeBlanc, and Mary Ann and Stephen Sessums, all of Baton Rouge, Charlene and Charles Kreutz, of Greensburg, and Christine and Cy Case, of Plaquemine; five grandchildren, Kacey and husband Scott Fontenot, Jenee and husband Robbie Olivier, Amy and husband Adam Hollyfield, Allison Kreutz and Hayden Case; and five great-grandchildren, Malyn, Dawson and Kaley Fontenot and Haddie and Bryce Olivier. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Josephine Bossom Rizutto; three sisters, Mary Mitchell, Katy Drago and Lena Olano; three brothers, Morris, Frank and Joe Rizutto; and two beloved grandsons, Quintin Case and Ryan Sessums. Visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen, on Tuesday, April 5, from 9 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North St., Baton Rouge. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bertha Rogers and Carolyn Landry for the love and devotion they showed while caring for Margaret. The family also offers their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Hyde, Dr. Robert Kenney, Nurse Tammy, and all of the doctors, nurses and staff of the West Port Dialysis Unit who gave our mother and our family enormous support and guidance during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dreams Come True (www.dctbrla.org). Arrangements by Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen. Mr. Buster, Jo Carolyn, Mary Ann, Charlene, & Christine:

I am sadden to hear of Mrs. Margaret's passing. I have nothing but wonderful memories of her and your home. As a young girl I just loved being with all of you. Your mom was a ray of sunshine to me. She always made me feel like I was family. Although the last years have been rough on all of you, know that she is in Heaven and is now your Angel from above. Hold on to the memories, she will always be in your hearts. May you find comfort in the Lord, he will carry you.
