PALMER, MARTHA LENORA The Lipsey Family Funeral Home announces services for Martha Lenora Palmer, 89, of Carthage, Texas. Graveside service will be at 11 am. Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, in Jackson Cemetery in Jackson, with Bill Ford and the Rev. Dave Sheehan officiating. Charlet Funeral Home Inc. in Clinton will be assisting with the graveside service. Visitation will be held at Don Lipsey Funeral Home, Carthage, on Saturday Sept. 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Miss Palmer died Friday morning, Sept. 3, at her home in Carthage. Miss Palmer was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Jackson to Ventress Jones and Sarah Eula Lane Pal-mer. Following graduation from high school, she earned both her bachelor's and master's of education degrees from LSU. She taught in the public schools of Destrehan for many years. In 1944, Miss Palmer joined the Women Accepted for Voluntary Enlistment (WAVES) and did her service to the war effort in Washington, D.C., and New York City. From 1952 to 1954, she taught and served as principal of the Department of Defense School in Nuremberg, Germany. She joined the faculty of Panola Junior College in Carthage, where she taught business courses and served as guidance counselor until her retirement in 1977. In addition to being an educator, she was a world traveler. She visited every state in the U.S., often taking her nieces and nephews along. She traveled Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. She loved to share her adventures with her family and friends and could easily be coaxed into relating tales of her experiences. Miss Palmer was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, Carter Circle, Upper Room Sunday School Class and Keenagers. Miss Palmer was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Denver Palmer, who was of Jackson; and her sister, Camille Meuleman, who was of Lafayette. She is survived by five nieces and two nephews, Gayle Morgan and her husband, Steve, of New Iberia, Jean Palmer of McKinney, Texas, Lane Palmer and his wife, Debbie, Beryl Reech and her husband, Earl, and Mary Alice Richard and her husband, Gabe, all of Jackson, Joey Meuleman and his wife, Angie, of Lafayette and Laurie Meuleman of Seattle. She is also survived by three great-nephews, four great-nieces and a great-great-nephew. Miss Palmer is also survived by the members of the warm and extended Miller Family who made her one of their own and included her in all types of family activities. Pallbearers will be members of the family. Family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 201 S.
