Neitha Grimes Obituary

Neitha Joubert Grimes, daughter of the late Phyllis Charles Timmons and Joseph Emmers Joubert, was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Jennings. She passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, in Port Allen. Visiting at Hall Davis & Son's Celebration Center on Friday, April 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at St. Paul Baptist Church, Jennings, Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Burial in Community Benevolent Cemetery, Jennings. Neitha accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. John Wilkinson, pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church of Jennings. In 1949, she was married to Earl Grimes Sr. and resided in Jennings. To this union was born a son, Gregory B. Grimes. Neitha was loved and respected in the community of Jennings. She was a committed educator who began her teaching career in Greensburg in St. Helena Parish. She was later hired in her home parish, where she taught in Elton and later reassigned to teach elementary grades in Jennings until her retirement. She taught for a total of 45 years. Neitha was a proud alumnae of Grambling State University and was an active member of the local Mildred Shay Jones Alumni Chapter. She received her bachelor's degree from Grambling College, followed by her master's degree in education from Texas Southern University in Houston. Neitha received her plus-30 hours from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, but Grambling State University was her "pride and joy." Neitha also was very proud of her membership in the National Association of University Women. She remained an active member until the time of her passing. Neitha was a faithful member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Jennings. She loved going to church and was always eager to attend Bible study. While living in Port Allen with her son and daughter-in-law, she attended church services and Bible study at Jesus The Light of the World Ministries in Baton Rouge and Westgate Church of Port Allen. She was given the loving nickname "Mamma Grimes." Neitha remained steadfast in her faith until end, and truly "walked by faith and not by sight." Neitha will be forever cherished by her son, Gregory B. Grimes and wife JoAnn, Port Allen; a sister, Winnifred Cook, Baton Rouge; grandsons, Germaine R. Grimes and wife Jennifer, Baton Rouge, and Rashad Allen and wife Kyra, Port Allen; granddaughters, Nicole D. Grimes, Baton Rouge, and Katara A. Williams and husband Stephen, Zachary; great-grandchildren, Rian Grimes, Brooklynn Allen, Christian Williams and Matthew Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Grimes Sr.; parents, Mrs. Phyllis Charles Timmons and Mr. Joseph Emmers Joubert; and three brothers, Joseph Louis, Rabion Timmons and Melvin Timmons. Arrangements by Hall Davis & Sons.

Aunt Neitha will be missed. When I think of Aunt Neitha growing up I think of her coming over to our house everday to visit with Mome and getting her hair press and curled. May God hold you and the family in his loving arms. All heaven is rejoicing because now she is home with the Father.
