"I will lift up my eyes to the hills-From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth…The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore." Psalm 121: 1-2, 8. Richard "Rigby" Joseph Businelle entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the age of 74. He was a native and resident of Plaquemine. Richard was a 1967 graduate of St. John High School and then was drafted into the US Army in 1970. During his time in the Army he was stationed in Germany and honorably discharged as a SP5 in 1972. Once he returned home, he resumed working at the family business, Pelican Shipyard/Businelle Towing, until he retired. Visitation will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine on Saturday, October 12th, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Chuck Sterns. Burial will follow in Grace Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, grandsons and nephew, Michael Businelle. Richard is survived by his children, Stacy Smith (Troy), Jessica Landry (David), Emily Mabile, Scott Businelle (Melissa), Melanie Oglesby (Ben), Janelle Primes (Rory), and Anne Chambers (Daniel); grandchildren, Ian Smith, Kurt Landry (Shannon), Kayla Rhymer (Austin), Kegan Landry (Haylee Tullier), Seth Mabile, Jude Businelle, Ana, Colin and Callen Oglesby, Elias, Ella and Ezra Primes, Emilia and Wade Chambers; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Piper Landry; siblings, Judy Lasseigne (Henry), Betty Ann Legendre (Ronald), Kathleen Stockman, John Wayne Businelle (Margaret); and numerous nieces and nephews. In 2018 an unexpected blessing was welcomed, a daughter, Miranda Henson (Brad), he was not aware of, was united with her father and welcomed with open arms into the entire Businelle family. Along with Miranda came 2 more grandchildren, Joseph Coker (Tarrah), Lauren Huckaby (David); and another great-grandson, Charles Joseph Coker. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Ann Blanchard Businelle, parents, John H. and Theresa Daigle Businelle; step-mother, Ethel Pendas Businelle; siblings, Thomas Marvin Businelle; brother-in-law, Donald Stockman; grandson, Liam Ezra Primes. Richard was a natural mechanic who loved to tinker on engines. He enjoyed sharing the love of Jesus with others. Richard had a passion for music that started at a young age with his family's band. A very special thank you to Lila St. Amant and Alice Ganaway for their constant dedication towards our father's care. Also, to Comfort Care Hospice. Please share memories at
