Robert Gohres Obituary

Robert James Gohres, better known as "Trout" to his grandchildren, passed away on November 25, 2022, at the age of 66. Loving husband of 43 years to Judy Connelly Gohres. Proud and loving father to Brian James Gohres (Kelly), William Robert Gohres (Danielle) and Holly Gohres Landry (Adam). Trout was blessed with nine grandchildren who he cherished dearly; Elsie Seale Gohres, Landon Robert Gohres, Blake Elizabeth Gohres, Mayme James Gohres, Linton Adam Landry, Bradley Elizabeth Gohres, Anderson James Landry, Loulie Bea Gohres and Ellis Day Landry. He is also survived by a host of longtime friends who he cared for very much. Robert was born, February 3, 1956, to the late John Linton Gohres Sr. and Patricia Burglass Gohres, and is survived by his brother John Linton Gohres Jr. (Mary). He was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana and was a proud alumnus of Saint Stanislaus and Southeastern Louisiana University. Robert was truly one of a kind. He had a obsession for Lakeshore, Mississippi where he fished and shrimped as a teenager. He also spent most of his retirement years relaxing out under his house, fishing off the dock and cooking; which became his passion. He was the President of Emery & James, Ltd. Gohres Insurance where he worked for 43 years. He served as Board Chairman of Globe Homestead and was the owner of many other businesses throughout his life. He truly enjoyed his many years teaching risk management classes at Southeastern Louisiana University. He belonged to the Krewe of Olympia, the Hammond City Club and the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, which awarded him Member of the Year. He was very much loved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed. Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend a celebration of life party at Oak Knoll Country Club 45246 Country Club Road, Hammond, LA 70401 on December 9, 2022 from 12:00 - 3:00. Goodbye Robert,

When I meet you our daughters (Alison and Holly) were planning soccer together and I discovered that a relative of yours Andy Thoron was one of my childhood friends growing up and that your brother John and I went to DeLaSalle High School together. The 6% of separation, I guess. I enjoy our brief time together and your humor, it was endless and enjoyable.

You have a beautiful family. I will miss you my friend and may you rest in peace.

With my deepest sympathies to the Gohres,

Jeffrey

I had the great privilege to work with this man. He was one of the kindest and most honorable men I've known. Seeing your smiling face come by the office with your dog made our days. You will be missed Robert. Until we meet again.
Sending prayers to Judy, Brian, John and all of your families.
Love, Leslie & Bobby

Robert was a dear friend and will be sorely missed. There are many stories I could share as examples of his generosity and kindness but none more so than when I started my own company. Robert helped me in so many ways. Such as helping me navigate the insurance minefields and then telling me not to pay for the coverage until I could afford it. Not many folks would do that for a starting business.

Great human, great friend, great business partner, etc. etc. There is no greater legacy I can think of than Robert's and Judy's children. His family is a testament to Robert Gohres the man.

Mr. Robert was the best of the best kind of person. Always lit up the room or office when he walked in. He always wanted to know what was going on with a person and truly listened to what they had to say. He is already sorely missed my so many.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your co-worker, Mr. Robert! I loved knowing you all these years.
