Sam Maxey Obituary

"We do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14. Tex Maxey, 84, of Ball, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Old Jefferson Community Care Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Tex was a United States Navy Veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from South Central Bell. He was a member and deacon of Baptist Temple Church, Alexandria, and a lifelong devoted fan of his beloved LSU Tigers. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Paula Maxey White and husband, Robb, of Mandeville, LA; Janice Maxey Guitreau and husband, Billy, of Gonzales, LA; Greg Maxey of Ball; Julie Maxey Swanson and husband, Chris, of Prairieville, LA; six grandchildren, Alyssa Dryden, Baton Rouge; Bryce Swanson, Caroline Swanson, Prairieville; Sam Maxey, Brianne Maxey, Brooke Maxey, Ball; one greatgrandson, Holden Dryden of Baton Rouge; one brother, Bruce Maxey and wife, Linda, of Pollock. Preceded in death by his wife, Aggis Johnson Maxey; parents, Nolan and Veda Edwards Maxey; brothers, Nolan "Curley" Maxey and David Maxey, Sr. Visiting at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, 701 Jackson Street, Alexandria, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012 and on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until religious services in the chapel at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Kenn Gordon. His brother, Rev. Bruce Maxey, will give the Eulogy. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn, Pineville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers. Pallbearers honored to serve will be Bryce Swanson, Sam Maxey, Philip Maxey, David Maxey, Clay Maxey and Bob Mellon. Honorary pallbearers are the Baptist Temple Church Deacons and Tex's best friend, retired Navy Lt. Commander Jack Newell of Alexandria. Mr. Jack said it best when he said Tex was a "a strong Christian and an honorable man." The family offers thanks and gratitude to Tex's caregiver, Debbie Sackett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Baptist Temple Church Senior Adult Fund, 4200 MacArthur Drive, Alexandria, LA, 71302, (318) 443-1400.
