Sara Nelson Obituary

Sara Hall Nelson died on June 19, 2023, shortly after her 92nd birthday. For most of her life, she lived at Ambrosia Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana, first with her dear parents Ruffin and Bella Hamilton and later with her much-loved husband, Eric Nelson, who died just weeks after she. Ambrosia was her place, where her roots were, her heaven on earth. Sara was fun, warm, kind and strong in a quiet way. She always wanted to know about you, and she always looked on the bright side of things, always for the silver lining. Sara's children, Beverly Grant (David), Sara Anne Ford (Russ) and Larkin Carter (Pam) believe she truly was the best mother in the world. She reveled in their successes and shared her extraordinary wisdom when life was hard or disappointing. They will forever miss her usual greeting, "Hello, darling!" Sara graduated from Newcomb College with a degree in Ceramics and was a talented artist. Her devoted grandchildren, Will Grant (Rachel), Anne Grant, Mary Bailey (Grahm), Sam Ford (Caroline), Jack Ford, Drew Carter (Aaren), Frances Lancaster (Jonathan) and Katie Artigues (Matthew), are already preparing for the family art auction of M's (as they called her) paintings. She also has two sisters, Ginger Hall Lambeth (Walt) and Lynda Hall Self and three great grandchildren, Gigi Ford, Charlie Lancaster, and Leavitt Bailey. Sara will be dearly missed by her family and many friends – they will miss her yeast rolls, her gumbo, the way she named the hummingbirds who came to her porch (Melissa was a favorite), her longtime crush on Marty Stuart, and so many other things, but above all else, they will miss her joy in life. A graveside service was held for Sara and Eric at Grace Church, where their ashes are buried.

I was so sad to hear of Sara´s passing. I always stopped to visit here when I was in from NYC. My sister snd I thought she was delightful and such a pleasure to talk to. A very gracious lady. And a chip off the old block of her mother. Aunt Bella, who was a true lady. I will miss those visits in the future, but the memories will never fade. Jo Ann Hamilton Davis

Beverly and family,
I´m saddened to hear of Mrs. Sara´s passing. She held so many memories in my life. I have known her since my childhood. She was a presence in my grandparents life, Feltus & Annette Anderson; my dad´s, Chenette; and my Aunt and uncle, Sam and Ada Taylor who lived on the grounds until their passing. Her memories will never be forgotten.
