Susan Levasseur Obituary

Susan Walker Levasseur passed away on July 8, 2021, in the peaceful embrace of our merciful Lord and surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. Susan delighted in adventure and encounter, earning in her youth, because of her extensive world travel, the nickname Floater. She became fluent in French, assimilating easily into her husband's French culture. Beloved by her students, Susan taught high school French for many years. Susan treasured her friendships with the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Baton Rouge and was buoyed in life by their love and support. Susan gave her complete attention to anyone with whom she was speaking, treating everyone she talked to with profound dignity, especially those in most need of God's love. Susan was a devoted daughter and sister and was fond of telling stories of childhood in the Walker family. Susan was a champion of her husband and children; her love for them was boundless and, from Heaven, she will pick up where she left off in advocating for them before God. Susan loved singing to and playing the piano for her grandchildren and taught them to do the little things with great love. She became known to all by her grandmother name Susu; she will be deeply missed. The family is forever grateful for the love of her caregivers both at home and at LaCour House. Susan is survived by her husband, Alain Levasseur, and children Stephanie Levasseur Devaney and husband Stephen Devaney of Northborough, MA, and Christophe Levasseur and wife Betsy Levasseur of St. Francisville, LA; sisters Myrna Walker Hall of Providence, RI and Dr. Mary Wendell (Wendy) Walker Schofield and husband Dr. Carl Schofield of Franklin, TN, and brother Myron Andrew (Mike) Walker and wife Rebecca of Baton Rouge; and 10 grandchildren, Francis Devaney, Gabriel Devaney, John Paul Devaney, Bridget Devaney, Peter Devaney, Mary Beatrice Devaney, Veronica Devaney, Libby Kate Levasseur, Mary Benton Levasseur and Helen Quinn Levasseur. She was preceded in death by her two children Marie-Helene Levasseur and Eric Levasseur, her parents Dr. Myron Andrew Walker, Sr. and June Blevins Walker, and sister Bonnie Walker Holliday. Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that the community please consider donating at The Hospice of Baton Rouge https://hospicebr.org, 3600 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806; Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, http://alzbr.org, 3772 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806; Saint Joseph's Academy, https://www.sjabr.org, 3015 Broussard St., Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Professor Levasseur, so sad to hear of Susan's passing. When working with you at the Law Center, every time we spoke she was always sweet & kind to me. She was a beautiful & gracious southern lady. I know you will miss her dearly. You & your family will be in my prayers.
