Thomas Alan "Tom" Greene obituary, Maringouin, LA

Thomas Greene Obituary

On Friday, March 22, 2024, Thomas Alan "Tom" Greene passed into his heavenly home after complications from a brain tumor. He joined his daughter, Meredith Claire, and granddaughter, Jamie, and a host of other loved ones in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Deeply rooted in a belief that "Life's about relationships and none greater than knowing our Lord", he was beloved by all who knew him. From growing up as the son of George and Wylie Mae Greene in a small town, to his veterinary practice, to the Louisiana State Capitol as a Senator, and beyond, he truly lived a life that was dedicated to helping and serving others. But more than that, he was the most incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was the anchor of his family, grounding them in values and giving them an appreciation of what is truly important in life. A patriarch and anchor may be in heaven, but his legacy will live on through all he touched. Tom was an extremely well-educated man with three degrees from LSU: a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, a Master's in Nuclear Engineering, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, which he practiced in Livonia, LA for 44 years with compassion and exemplary care. He and his beloved wife, Cathy were married for 51 years, and she loved, served, and cared for him forever. They would settle in Maringouin, LA between the bayous and would raise 5 children there: Holland (Breaux), Craig (Kristen), Jason (Leigh), Ryan (Bonnie) and Boyd (Meagan). With grace and dignity, he deeply loved and uplifted his 21 grand kids who will surely carry his legacy for years to come. His firm family foundation was built in Fenton, LA with his seven siblings: Kenny, Donny, Craig, Mark, Kathy, Stephanie, and Tami who will dearly miss him along with their spouses and children. Always an avid LSU Tiger fan and having an immense passion for great food, his home was open to all as an extension of God's unconditional love. Those who knew him were taught rich life lessons of integrity, virtue, strength, honor, and hard work. From cattle farming, firewood splitting, and fishing, his hands were never afraid to try something new. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Audubon Hospice, Acadian Ambulance and his entire medical team from Louisiana to Texas as they provided such excellent care to extend his time with us. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, March 29 at the Chapel on the Campus (visitation 9:00-11:00 AM, service 11:00 AM). A reception of food and fellowship will follow at his family home in Maringouin.

Tom was truly a good man and gentleman, not to mention an excellent veterinarian. He saved my fur baby and for that I'll always be grateful. She would not have made it without his help and care. Always such a happy person with a wonderful attitude, he will be missed terribly. We know he's pain free and happy at the right hand of Our Sweet Lord. Happy heavenly prayers to Cathy and all the family. He is in the divine place. Much love Cindy Landry and family.

Dr. Greene was my first dog's vet when i was 21. Forty one years later he was still my favorite vet treating my pet that I have today, until he no longer could work. He was a true gentlemen, always wanting to carry my bags to the car, opening the car door for me, giving me a goodbye hung and ending our conversation with "go Tigers". I'm not sure who left feeling better the most from those visits, my pet or me. Where else in the world could you get such special treatment. I will truly miss him, he was one of a kind. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of his family.

Tom and I were blessed with sharing four wonderful grandchildren (parents Jason and Leigh) and Jamie a premature baby girl who immediately went to glory.
Tom was a man of strong faith, blessed with a large loving family, many friends, with many notable accomplishments and has left a powerful legacy. We are saddened by his passing but comforted in knowing as a believer in his Lord and Savior Jesus, Tom now has a heavenly address. John 3:36. I believe he continues praying for all to finish strong in their faith journey trusting and following our Risen Savior. Tom, give Jamie a hug for me. I plan to see ya'll again. David

I´ve known Tom for many years as he was all of my pets vet. He took such special care of them all. He was my friend. And as an avid fisherman we shared many old fishing tales with each other. Trips to Venice and visiting him at his fishing camp there was always one of the highlights of my fishing excursions. What an all around great guy he was and I will miss him dearly. Condolences to all the family. When His master, Christ, the greatest fisherman of all, looked down and saw Tom, he cast his net around him. Pulling him up he shouted with great excitement, "look dad, it´s a keeper". Rest in peace Tom untilwe meet again -Robert Lindsey-

I had the privilege of enjoying lunch with Senator Greene in the early 90's before a Town of Brusly "meet and greet". I remember him as a personable, intelligent, down to earth man...Dressed in a business suit, Senator Greene pulled up in a very muddy pick-up for a meeting with state and local dignitaries. In the truck bed, Senator Greene's loyal dog patiently awaited his return. With his jovial manner putting everyone at ease, Senator Greene definitely made a great and lasting impression on those in attendance. Rest in Peace, Senator Greene.

Cathy: We go back to the early days of Chapel and how vibrant the Spirit of God and the Love of Christ was. The Greene family stood out as one of the pillars. Tom was always calm and confident. We became involved in his Senate Campaign and later you helped us in locating / buying Arbroth and our kids attending FRA with yours. Those were good days and it hurts to take away Tom. I have nothing but admiration for your family and am sorry for the loss.

I was a classmate and close friend with Tommy through 12 years of our basic education. There was no doubt in anyone´s mind, especially mine, that Tommy Greene was going to be one of God´s special children through out his life. Tommy´s parents were really special people, and their commitment to all their children was something that I still admire to this day. His brothers and sisters were all very similar to Tommy in their full commitment to God and love of their fellow man. Tommy, I regret that we weren´t closer both geographically and especially in our relationship during our adult lives. It. Is a great loss to me. Peace be with you and your family as you enter the next phase of your lives. God bless all of you.

Best Regards

I will always cherish my memories of this wonderful, good looking, wity, funny, giving, and caring man. He had that beautiful smile for everyone and I dearly loved him and Cat. Cathy and I have played partners in tennis for many
years. We traveled to several tournaments in lots of different locations. After getting lost in more than a few predicuments, Tom bought me a GPS for Christmas. What a thoughtful needed gift! He was an awesome crawfish boiler. For several years he and Cat had a huge crawfish boil for all her tennis friends and he cooked them just perfect. Everyone had a great time and looked forward to this event every year. He made everyone feel welcome and special. The obituary describes him perfectly. Thank you God for letting him be in our lives and being an example of your love.
