Thomas Hamilton Obituary

Thomas "Tommy" Hamilton, 73, of Baton Rouge passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018; with Frances, his wife of 53 years, and his three children, Stacy, Michael, and Randy Hamilton surrounding his bedside. Tommy was born on March 4th, 1945 in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Lee High in 1961 and then from LSU several years later. Tommy met Frances while walking home from school one afternoon in 1958, they were married in 1965 and remained that way through their entire life. Tommy was a proud father and remained active in all three of his children's lives. He was a physical education teacher for 32 years in East Baton Rouge, coaching thousands of kids in several different schools. Tommy was an avid fisherman throughout his life and considered the Atchafalaya Spillway his home away from home. You could always find Tommy in the kitchen on Sunday nights frying fish for his wife and kids. Besides being a devoted husband and father, coach and fisherman, Tommy's greatest love was being a grandfather. He is survived by his six grandchildren- Logan, Hayley, Madeline, Jacob, Hunter and Hannah Hamilton. Tommy attended hundreds of sporting events, award ceremonies, graduations and other activities for his grandchildren. They loved him dearly and were with him daily in the weeks before he passed. "Pawpaw" was incredibly proud of all their accomplishments and his grandchildren brought him so much joy. Tommy was also survived by Shannon Hamilton, his daughter-in-law of over 20 years, wife to son Randy, and mother to Hayley, Hunter, and Hannah Hamilton; Stacy Leblanc, mother of Jacob and Madeline Hamilton; Robin Fournet, mother of Logan Hamilton, and Jennifer Looney, a special family friend for over 15 years. Thank you for all the smiles you brought him for so many years. A special thanks to the staff of The Butterfly Wing of The Hospice of Baton Rouge at the Baton Rouge General. Your care and compassion made the final days of Tommy's life very peaceful for not only him, but for his entire family. Words cannot express our gratitude. Per Tommy's request, there will be no church service or visitation. He always asked to simply be cremated, and his ashes spread where he spent so much time fishing with his sons before coming home to fry fish for his daughter (it was her favorite!) on Sunday nights. Thank you to all the friends that reached out with kind words and well-wishes to his wife and all the coworkers and friends of his children, from Mobile, Alabama all the way to Texas. Your support was incredible and honors a great husband, father, and grandfather. Take peace in knowing Tommy's last day at home, he walked his beloved dog Babe out to the patio and sat with him like they did every morning for years. And if there are fish to be caught in heaven, do not worry - the old man will find them.

Got to fish with Tommy a few times and he was really into fishing big time. Sure going to miss the time I had with him and hope there are a lot of fish to catch up in Heaven.

What a wonderful guy!! I was lucky enough to know Tommy through Frances and it was always out there and up front that he lived and breathed for his children and grandchildren. I'm so sorry that he's gone but know that his family was truly blessed to have had him.
