Todd Chambers Obituary

Todd David Chambers, 72, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on July 22, 2024, in his home surrounded by loved ones. The third of three sons, he was born in Bossier City, Louisiana, to Homer and Rita Chambers on March 1, 1952. He spent his childhood in Turtle Bay, Hawaii, which he loved and remembered fondly. Eventually he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he attended and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1970. There he was the "Big Man on Campus" and voted "Most Talented" as he was a star athlete in football, baseball and basketball as well as finding time to play the drums and sing in his band. After high school, inspired by his father's work, Todd took some college classes in preparation for what would be his life's work, electrical lighting. Todd was a pioneer in the industrial lighting industry. He and a partner started his first company Sun Enterprises, Inc. in May of 1974. Seven years later in 1981 he started his own company, Specialty Lighting, Inc. He would turn this company into the largest light tower manufacturer in North America and improve and set the industry standard for portable and hazardous location lighting before he semi-retired in 1999. He was a passionate leader and father who shared his knowledge, expertise and dedication with many, including his sons, who he worked alongside and guided for many years with their endeavors. When he wasn't innovating and inventing new ways to move his business forward, he loved to play the drums, fish and watch movies but golf was his passion. It was his love of the game, and his prowess at it, coupled with his infectious personality and sense of humor that helped him to build a network of friends and associates to become successful both in business and in life. The only thing he loved more than golf was his family and friends. He had the biggest heart of any man I have ever known and was always there whenever he was needed to give whatever he could to help the ones he loved. We love you Dad and you will be missed and thought of fondly and often. He was preceded in death by his father Homer Chambers, his mother Rita Chambers and his two brothers Tim Chambers and Reggie Chambers, and two of his best friends Osce Jones and Tommy Wilson. He is survived by his sons, Walter Chambers, David Chambers and Benjamine Chambers, his grandchildren Benjamine Chambers, Jr. and London Chambers as well as many nephews and nieces. His family wishes to extend a special thanks to Kip Scarsone and Danielle Wyble for being there for him through his roughest days. It means more than you could know, and he loved you both. A Celebration of Life will be held at The University Club at 15333 Memorial Tower Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70810 on Thursday August 8, 2024, from 11am until 1pm. In lieu of flowers or material gifts, please donate to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Humane Society of Louisiana. They were both dear to his heart. Thank you.
