Mrs. Thelma & the Duplessis family,

Mr. Tiggy & I were neighbors for 50 years. He was an amazing man and truly a leader of our community.

He raised cattle with his father and brother. We all helped each other when the cattle had to be dipped for fever ticks.

He and Mrs. Thelma were always ready to help in anyway they could.

In 1947 Mrs. Thelma played the organ for our wedding at the old St. John the Evangelist Church that burned down years ago.

Last summer he stopped by to visit and we reminisced of old times.

His memory will always be alive in his stories and the jokes that he told. We'll truly miss our neighbor and friend,

Jackie,Ronnie,Thelma,and rest of family,

Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. We will truly miss this great man. Jackie, you were such a caring daughter, and was there for Tiggy and Thelma whenever they needed you.

Harold has been knowing Tiggy for a very long time, and remembers when he got married 72 yrs. ago, and considered him a great friend. He will miss the rabbit hunting with him, and reminiscing with him when he stopped unexpectantly for a visit. Yes, we will miss him greatly.

Although it has been over 30 years since I have seen Tiggy and Thelma I thought of them often, truly missing Tiggys sense of humor and compassion. Tiggy will assuredly be missed by so many. My prayers and heart go out to Thelma and the children for the loss of such a wonderful husband, father and community leader.

I am so sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing. From what I've heard and read here in this guest book, he was an awesome man of great character. May you keep his memory and goodness fresh in the minds of your children to carry on his heritage. Praying for your entire family, especially your dear grandmother.

The stories of the tens of thousands of lives that this Gentle Giant touched in his 95 years could fill a library.

As long as we who have known and loved him evoke his name he will be remembered. I encourage every one to tell their story about Tiggy in this forum.

My story is a simple but profound one.

I arrived on his door step in the spring of 1969, the son of his first cousin, Vinnie Braud, suitcase in hand, lost and very confused. Fresh from Viet Nam, I was a distorted twenty year old, high school drop out.

"Uncle" Tiggy and "Aunt" Thelma adopted me, gave me shelter, soothed my battered soul, made sure i earned a GED, found me employment (at Carville General Merchants in Dutchtown), sent me to LSU, hosted a bridal shower for my soon to be wife and sent me on my way to life as a better man.

My extended family's enduring respect and love for Tiggy will never die.

We have known and loved Tiggy as a patriarch of an incredible family.

I will miss his "Hey Cuz" and wry smile whenever i returned "home" to Prairieville.

His imprint on my life is indelible. If it were not for him, i would not be the man i am.

With endearing gratitude and solace that he is with his maker ...

We are sad that we were unable to attend the services to bid adieu to "Cousin Tiggy" as he often referred to himself. On Monday Harry stepped on a nail in an umkempt field and it nearly went all the way through his right foot. He has orders to stay off the foot and of course I am his arms and legs for the most part. I was honored to have interviewed Mr. Tiggy a few months ago on the community and our family ties. I marvelled at how he came in from the fields at 6:30 PM to share with me his many memories and our Braud/Gautreau connection.Of course Ms Thelma was not be left out. She played the piano for me and showed off her latest creation, a new quilt. At 11:00 P.M. I insisted on closing the interview, vowing to return at a later date. Their energy level and willingness to share with others never ceased to amaze me. An Ascension Parish Icon, he will be missed by all. God Bless my friend... may you plow richer fields and enrich new friends in your new home. To Ms Thelma and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren left behind, our sympathies on your loss but how rich you are to have been in his inner circle of family.

Our thoughts and our prayers are with you always. No words could ever fully express our heart felt sympathy. Mr. Tiggy was a wonderful man. He was a dedicated and true conservationist in every sense of the word. All those involved in Conservation were truly blessed for having known him. We loved him dearly. This state has truly lost a great man who always put what was best for Louisiana, agriculture and its citizens first. The conservation movement has also lost a great leader. We will miss his enthusiasm, charm, whit, and his loving heart. May God give you the comfort and strength to get through this tremendously difficult time.

Ms. Bell,

We are so saddened to hear of your father's passing. Your entire family is in our prayers.
Michel J Champagne
Captain, Manresa Retreat Group #25
March 1, 2006

Words cannot express what a profound honor and privilege it has been to have known Mr Tiggy Duplessis for over twenty years as a fellow retreatant at Manresa - a caring, kind, and gentle man always at the ready to help his fellow man, whether it be by word or deed, and a loving and lovable raconteur in the truest sense of the word, possibly second only to his late brother Bris.

I offer you my most heartfelt condolences on your loss and assure you that you will all be remembered in the prayers offered by the members of the retreat group that was blessed for so many years by the presence of both Tiggy and Bris but also their father as well. The world is without a doubt a better place for them having been in it, and those of us lucky enough to have known any of them, if not all three, are certainly all better men for it.

While no doubt more easily said than done, Tiggy's life is surely one we can celebrate, certainly a prime example of "the art of living well" and an inspiration to all who knew him.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, give to your servant departed the full remission of his sins that he may obtain the pardon he has always desired. You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.

May the angels lead him into Paradise, may the martyrs come to welcome him and take him to the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. May the choir of angels welcome him where Lazarus is poor no longer; may he have eternal rest. Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Oh, how the memories came flooding back of our times in the 50's when we were neighbors in Geismar and Tiggy and Thelma made us feel "one of the family". There were the weekly visits for saying the Rosary and later looking at Dragnet on TV.

John loved to tell the story of the time, when in a medical emergency, he hot-wired one of Tiggy's vehicles to go for help----so many, many memories! Then there is this last great very appreciated show of friendship--Tiggy took the time and effort to be with us, sharing our grief, at John's funeral this past April.

The world has lost a great man, but Heaven has gained another Saint.

God Bless you all, My prayers are with you,

It seems to me that Mr. Tiggy has brought up a very well family. When I first met some of the members of his family, they welcomed me with open arms and told me they felt that they knew me forever, you know I felt that same way. God will take care of Mr. Tiggy and he will be watching and taking care of all of you.

It is so sad to see such a great husband, father, grandfather and most importantly a *GREAT FRIEND* like Mr. Tiggy himself leave us at what terms he did. I know he fought with as much might as he could because all the Duplessis' fight till the end! He lived such a wonderful life; Mrs. Thelma and himself had such a wonderful family the youngest Mrs. Sheila Duplessis Bell has giving me something in life that most people could had never given anybody (me) and that there is Faith and Strength and most of all to learn!I did not get to meet Mr. Tiggy and Mrs. Thelma until my last spring concert of my sr. yr of "05" he told me something I will never forget "My daughter is blessed to have such a wonderful student like you Jodi wanting to learn the sounds of music", from that point on I looked at him as one of my family members so losing him is very hard! Mrs. Bell I promise you and your family my Uncle that has also recently past, will take care of your daddy (Mr. Tiggy) up in heaven where the symphony awaits us all! My prayers go out to all the family and friends! God Bless

Words cannot express how I feel and how our community feels about the loss of this great man. My father loved being around Mr. Tiggy and especially loved to tell his stories, usually comical tales of life. His love for Mrs. Thelma was quite evident, setting such a good example of what true love and devotion is to a spouse. The memory of the two of them holding hands in church and their devotion to their Lord will be etched in my mind forever. God rest your soul, Mr. Tiggy and God bless your family.
