A safety coordinator for ISI Specialists in Texas and a former supervisor for Basic Industries at Shell Refinery, Norco, he died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. in the Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge Hospice. He was 61, a native of Melville and a resident of Gonzales. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved sports and cooking for friends and family. He is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Tracy Melancon; two daughters, Brandi Furr and Candis Coburn; three grandchildren, Paiten and Parker Furr and Aiden Coburn-Dishler, who lit up his life and gave him joy; and sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Carlos Savant. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Burley and Lucille Viola Coburn, of Melville. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Friday, Jan. 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Cornerview Cemetery.
