William Kerr Jr. Obituary

William (Butch) J W Kerr, Jr was born in Long Beach, MS on November 9,1942 and died August 21, 2024 in St Francisville, LA. Preceded in death by his parents William (Bill) J W Kerr and Grace Floyd Kerr and beloved son James (Jimma) Kerr. Survived by sons Chris and Charlie Kerr; grandson Christian Kerr, granddaughter Jamie Kerr and great grandchildren Ian and Mamie Kerr. sisters Lynda Senko, Judy Kendrick (Linwood), Carmie Lucas (Reggie) and Liz Vannoy (Darrell) and brother Wade Kerr. Nieces and nephews Lin Kendrick; Ronald John,Jason and Justin Senko; Toby and Hannah Kerr; Heath, Lesley and Kelli Lucas; Jennifer and Wesley Vannoy. Butch served in the U S Navy, worked overseas and at the local papermill before opening his own insurance company in St Francisville. He was a man of many talents and interests. He bought and trained race horses with his good friend Cliff Wilcox, bought, sold and refurbished antiques with another friend "TWK" Klein, owned and operated a restaurant with Mickey Dwyer, built beautiful furniture and even raised and fought chickens. Although not a physician, he was once coroner of West Feliciana parish. Butch had many good, life-long friends including Jimmy Ritchie, Jesse Means, Billy D'Aquilla, Robert Bordelon, Corwin Aldridge, Thomas Graves and Tom Temple. Although he could be abrasive, he had many friends of all color, age and economic status. Known for his dry wit and irreverent attitude, Butch was a master of a quick, sly response. Butch loved his family & friends, the community he lived in, crossword puzzles, dancing and drinking beer. Everyone loves telling their favorite wild, improbable, often unbelievable Butch Kerr tale. He was fearless and completely self assured.. Butch Kerr was both the baddest person and the goodest person you ever knew. Butch enjoyed a special friendship with Owen Kemp and her family for many years. Her sons Michael and Reese and grandchildren Marcelle, Ada, Emmet and Sophie were very dear to him. A private graveside service was held in St Francisville. A large celebration of his life will be held on November 9th which would have been his 82nd birthday. Butch was never boastful. He didn't have to be. He was Butch Kerr. And that was plenty.
