Woodrow Pickens Obituary

Woodrow Wilson Pickens, beloved father of his only child and daughter, Zona Marie Pickens, left his mortal cloak to be with Our Father in Heaven on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Regency Place Nursing Home in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 59 years, Vivian Mae Hurley Pickens; as well as a brother and two sisters. He was born April 6, 1915, in the Plains-Port Hudson area but spent all of his life in Baton Rouge, working at the Exxon Refinery for 43 years. Mr. Pickens was honored in a private service at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Monday, May 24. The service was presided over by Chaplain Marla Fuller. Pallbearers included Gene Flusche, Mike Flusche and Mike Walker. Mr. Pickens' quick smile and laughter and caring and loving character will be deeply missed but the memories will never die. Memorial donations would be welcomed by an Alzheimer or cancer research entity or any local humane society.

Zona, you know how much I sympathize with you during your time of loss. I am so thankful we have been able to spend the time we've had together over the past week and a half. I know how much grief and pain you feel but your Dad and Mom are so proud of your strength. They were wonderful parents who raised a wonderfully special daughter. You know you are my dearest friend and you know I am here for you.

Luv ya, Karleen
