Yvonne Murphy Obituary

Yvonne Frugé Murphy, 87, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, surrounded by family at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Born in Chataignier, LA on November 14, 1935, Yvonne attended nursing school at Lamar Technical College, leaving early to marry the love of her life, John "Jack" Murphy on November 14, 1954, whom she met when he was stationed at nearby Camp Polk. Yvonne and Jack first lived in Fort Riley, KS, and then moved to Jack's hometown of Philadelphia, PA. There they had two children, son John Jr. and daughter Yvette, before relocating to Louisiana where daughter Lillie was born. After living in Paradis, Luling, and Slidell, they settled in Gonzales in 1968, where they would stay for the remainder of their lives. Yvonne and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, shortly before Jack passed away, on April 24, 2005. Yvonne remained in their home near family, friends, and her beloved St. John the Evangelist Church. Yvonne was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was known for her sewing skills, her delicious Cajun cooking, and her love of LSU baseball. Her home was the center of many family Easter traditions such as egg "pocking", rocket launches, and the annual Easter softball game. She also enjoyed riding her horse, dancing the jitterbug, listening to classical music and 1940s crooners. She was most at peace praying the rosary, reading her bible, and attending Mass. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Silmas and Loza Billedeau Frugé, her husband John, and her brother Rudy Fruge. Yvonne is survived by her three children John "Johnny" (Maralena), Yvette Henry, and Lillie (Mitch Underwood), and six grandchildren, Becky Kelley (Eric and their son Jeffrey), Shelly Pendergrass (Patrick and their sons Kristopher {Dena} and Colin), Jason Henry (Rebecca and their sons Clyde, Travis, Lawson, and Cade), Jared "Tut" Henry (Angel and their son Kye), Michelle Underwood (son Cade), and Nicholas Underwood (Liz Tardo and their daughters, Emma, Caroline, and Marley Mae), and niece Angelique Fruge' Farmer (Nathan). A devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and "Granny" to all who met her, Yvonne was a woman of faith and is now united with the Lord and her beloved Jack. Yvonne will be memorialized with a Catholic Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville on Thursday, November 10 at 11am. A Rosary will begin at 9:30 with visitation until the start of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates your prayers and donations to the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Outreach Center, 15208 LA 73, Prairieville, LA.

To the children...mom (Nathalie/Nat Rozas Ledoux) says she has fond memories of when Ms Yvonne and Mr Jack stayed with them in their apartment in Hahnville until they got their apartment in Paradis. She says her and your mom along with Nellie Joyce, and Margaret would go out dancing on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights as well as Sunday afternoons and nights...as long as they kept their grades up. Can you believe they gave dancing up for lent! She talks about all of their great times together all of the time. Mom will be saying the Rosary at 9:30 on Thursday, 11/10 in remembrance of beautiful Ms Yvonne. She will be missed. Prayers of comfort and healing in this difficult time. Julie Ledoux Austin (2nd daughter of Raymond and Nathalie Ledoux)

To the Murphy family,
I am saddened to hear of the loss of your beautiful mother. I remember her sweet, gentle ways from when I first met her over 50 years ago. May God bless your family as you celebrate her life and the devoted mother she was. You are truly blessed having had her as your mother. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
