Gladys Land Obituary

Mrs. Gladys Jane Land, a resident of Antlers, passed away on the 29th of August, 2023, bringing to end a glorious journey of love, warmth, and profound creativity. Born December 7th, 1927 in Antlers, she was the loving daughter of Elmer Louie Leonard and Julia Deen (Bates) Leonard. Gladys married her beloved companion, Jimmy S. Land, in Paris, TX, on August 21, 1945 and together they shared many years filled with love and family. Cultivating a legacy of love and warmth, Gladys was an exceptional homemaker. She took great pride in creating a welcoming space for her loved ones. Her interests and talents were many, including quilting, painting, cooking, sewing, and crafts of all kinds. She found great satisfaction in curating a rose and flower garden blooming with life and made even more beautiful with her painted pottery and figurines. Gladys often penned heartfelt letters to her family and friends, depicting the musings of her life and the depth of her affection. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy in 2008; daughter: Sandra Louise Land; and sisters: Edith Pettyjohn and Helen Womack. Gladys is survived by her daughters: Brenda Jane VanBeber and husband Francis of Antlers, Glenda Kay Garvin and husband Henry of Waxahachie, TX, and Darla Dee Suttles and husband Logan of Duncan; her sisters: Elmerine Stone of Antlers, Loretta Ramey of Missoula, MT, Ailene Musick of Red Oak, TX, and Sue Leonard of Antlers; loving grandchildren: Felicia Harris and husband Kevin, Brigett Anthony and husband Jimmy, Jana Gilbreath and husband Danny, Chip VanBeber and wife Kari, Christopher Davis and wife Courtney, Gregory Davis and wife Shannon, and Michael Walker and wife Paula; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of cherished friends, both old and new. Faith-filled and creative, Mrs. Gladys Jane Land left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. As we mourn the physical absence of this incredible woman of Christ, we must also celebrate and cherish the loving legacy she has left behind. A woman of grace, wisdom, and artistry, Gladys will be deeply missed but her memory will forever be engrained in the hearts of those who loved her. Graveside service for Gladys will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Quanah Memorial Park in Quanah, TX., with Kevin Harris officiating. Family members and friends were invited to meet at the Quanah First Assembly of God prior to and after the graveside service. Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Service of Antlers, Oklahoma.
