MayNell House Obituary

MayNell House, 85, passed peacefully at her home in Antlers on August 10, 2018.  She was born August 21, 1932 to JB "Buster" and Jewel (Taylor) Birchfield in Coolidge, AZ. MayNell married Clarence Alfred House on October 2, 1952 in DeQueen, AR. Soon after marrying, she accompanied Alfred to France, where he was stationed.  She loved to tell stories of those early days and the people she met and befriended.  She returned to the states, by ship and plane, just prior to becoming a mother.  She and Alfred had two sons, Al and Larry.  While husband Alfred worked in the lumber industry MayNell worked also.  Her early work career was filled with good memories and humorous remembrances of her work with several other Push County ladies at Southwestern Bell, located on High Street in Antlers.  She was a switchboard operator who connected calls the old fashioned way, always with that all important question:  "How may I direct your call?"  Later, with Alfred, she owned House Lumber, where she worked behind the scenes managing the business.  When the couple sold that business, MayNell continued to work until retirement at Push County Hospital as a Medical Records Clerk.  Throughout her life, MayNell was very faithful to her church and held several positions throughout the years at the First Baptist Church of Antlers.  At the same time she was very involved in the Antlers Community.  She was a founding member of the Antlers Booster Club, worked with the hospital auxiliary for many years, was a member of ESA and was also a proud member of the OU Sooners Club.  She was an avid fan of OU Sports.  Always, she loved to travel.  Her life consisted of many fun trips and places with family and with friends.  Most of all, she was a proud and involved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and very recently great-great-grandmother.  The thing she valued most in life was time with her family.  MayNell "Granny House" will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents:  Buster and Jewel Birchfield; her husband: Alfred House; brother:  Kenneth Birchfield and sister:  Betty Crownover. MayNell is survived by her two sons:  Al House and wife Becky and Larry House both of Antlers; brother:  Johnny Birchfield; two sisters:  Theda Taylor and Ann Henslee; seven grandchildren:  Rebecca Barnes and husband Eric of Rattan, Laura Revard of Ponca City, Ben House and wife Brittnee of Durant, B.J. McDougal and fiance' Brittany of Norman, Hayley Rinehart of Antlers, Mallory House of Antlers and Harlan House of Durant; eleven great grandchildren:  Drew McKnight and wife Erica, Ross McKnight, Coen Barnes, Avery Revard, Ariell Revard, Brooks Revard, Braeton House, Zander Rinehart, Zane Rinehart, Stella Phillips and Kallee House; one great- great grandchild:  Logan McKnight; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services for MayNell was at 10:00 AM August 14, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Antlers with Reverend Aaron Reed officiating. Interment  followed at Antlers City Cemetery.
