James Smith Obituary

Hephzibah, GA - James Williams Smith, Jr. 91, husband of Elizabeth Turbeville Smith
was born June 23,1932, and entered into rest on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Funeral services will be held from Hillcrest Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2024,
at 11:00 AM.

Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the Hillcrest Baptist
Church.

Mr. Smith was the son of the late James W. Smith Sr. and Maggie Lee Smith, he was
born in Augusta, GA.

Business - Second generation owner of Smitty's Auto Service and founder of Smith Tire
Company of Augusta, Automotive Service Association Augusta founding Member, local
and state president – ABA Air Parts Group.

Church - Joined Hillcrest Baptist Church in 1973, served as a deacon chairman,
Brotherhood Director, Sunday school director, budget and finance chairman, church
trustee, founded Prison Ministry, and various ministry teams. Accepted
Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savor in 1948 at the Bell Auditorium at a Billy Graham
Crusade.

Civic - Founded Pride and Progress in 1991, member of Hephzibah Henpeck Supper,
Member of Hephzibah Agriculture Club, board member of University Hospital,
founding member of South Augusta Exchange Club, Augusta Commissioner Dist. 8 for
two terms, board member of Ga. Bank and Trust, and founding board member of Youth
Challenge Academy.

He was preceded in death by is daughter Carla Rosier (Wendy), and his grandson Jon
Jon Rosier. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons; Chuck Smith (Betty),
Darren Smith (Kathy), Clint Smith (Dana); his grandchildren; Chuck Ashley (Katie),
Tiffany McCallum (Shane), Maggie Thompson (Dustin), Scott Smith (Roxanne), Nick
Smith (Kaitlyn), John Creech (Maja), Kayla Creech, Brett Smith (Haley), C.W. Smith; his
great grandchildren; Hunter Rosier (Jordan), Trinity Caldwell, Parker Key, Aubrey Smith,
Anne Marie Smith, Olivia Creech, Amelia Smith, Lily Creech, and Grady Smith.
Pallbearers will be Brett Smith, C.W. Smith, Nick Smith, John Creech, Chuck Ashley,
Hunter Rosier, and Jeff Padgett.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Smith, Harold Smith Sunday School Class, Hiram
Thompson, Don Hudson, Don Grantham, and Billy Cheney.

Memorial contributions made be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3045 Dean's Bridge
Road, Augusta, GA 30906

James (Jimmy to us) was a wonderful Christian Man and served in a lot of different ministries, but the greatest was serving His Savior at Hillcrest Baptist Church. I sat under his teaching in Sunday School for several years. He was an example for all who knew him.

He was a very great man.He was a wonderful asset to Christ's ministry the church and entire community. He will be greatly missed but is now in Heaven with Jesus. Glory be to God.
