Jean Marie Hudson

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jeannie Marie Hudson who passed away peacefully April 15, 2025 at the age of 55.

Jean was the youngest of eight children of parents Paul and Virginia (Ginny) Colohan who preceded her in death along with her only child, Alexis Colohan Haywood; her sisters, Cynthia (Cindy) L. Bessman, Karen L. Courtier, and her brother Paul M. Colohan Jr.

A graduate of Michigan State University, Jeannie practiced law in Augusta in private practice and as a public defender and became a mentor to many young up-and-coming attorneys before retiring in 2012 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

Many people who are regularly at the courthouses in both Richmond and Columbia counties remember Jeannie's always sunny outlook and infectious laugh.

After the tragic death of her daughter, Alexis, Jeannie found herself taking solace in alcohol. Jean found the courage within herself to "beat the bottle" and after finding sobriety again, Jean turned her efforts to volunteering through Alcoholics Anonymous and was a sponsor to several people on their own journeys to defeat alcoholism as well as GAP Ministries that aid the homeless.

Jeannie was seven years sober at the time of her passing.

Jeannie is survived by her beloved husband Scott; brothers Mike Colohan (Suzanne), Rick Colohan (Cathy), Kelly Colohan (Renee), Steve Colohan (Alicia) and her best friend from childhood Susan Mowell.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa's Catholic Church on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 1 p.m.

An informal reception at the church will follow the funeral mass.

You'll truly be missed Jeanie. I always loved hanging out with you when Rosemary and I would hang out with Alexis. You were always one of the cool parents but encouraged us to be the best people we could be. I know you're in the comfort of Alexis finally and others you've lost.

My heart goes out to Jean´s family. We have great memories of Jean when we lived in the neighborhood. We also sold her our house when we left. She helped our family legally with a few issues and we appreciated that!
