Lois Akins Obituary

Lois Bradley Akins, resident Augusta, Georgia, formerly of Lexington, Kentucky peacefully passed on to be with her Lord on December 27, 2022 at home at the age of 76.

Lois grew up as the second youngest of the eight children of Lasserre Bradley, Sr. and Mary Bradley. Their home on Tahoma Road was filled with family, friends, music, and laughter. She began studying the violin at age 11 and continued her studies as a music education major at the Women's College of Georgia, now Georgia College and State University. After graduation she moved to Augusta to begin her teaching career and met Bill Akins, the love of her life. They established themselves in the CSRA, Bill as an avid outdoorsman and Lois as the founder of Suzuki Strings of Augusta. They were lifetime members of Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church.

Lois and Bill loved hosting gatherings and bringing people together. They organized and executed large scale functions such as fishing tournaments, violin workshops, and multi-generational family events. Lois was known for her kindness, graciousness, humility, and enthusiasm for life. She unselfishly and wholeheartedly poured her tireless energies into her students and their families, and she built a Suzuki program of exceptional quality.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Lasserre, Senior and Mary A. Bradley, her sisters Dalen Thomas and Jo Cook, and her brother David Bradley.

She is survived by her three children, Bradley Akins (Reia), Kim Chavous (Bo), and Gwen Jenkins (Brent) and ten grandchildren, Elliette Akins, Piper Akins, Audrianna Chavous, Shae Chavous, Tyler Chavous, Cassidy Elsey, Savannah Elsey, Jack Jenkins, Phillip Jenkins, and Willie Jenkins.

Funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday, January 2, 2023 in the chapel of Platt's Funeral Home 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809 with visitation starting at 12 Noon until time of service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, GA.

I enjoyed and appreciated Lois as a friend and my music teacher. She was blessed with a very special music talent and it showed as she tirelessly worked with her students. Thanks for the memories she blessed us with in her life.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Lois´ death. She was a wonderful human being and an exemplary SuZuki teacher and leader. It was my privilege to lead a workshop for her and experience her gracious hospitality and warm caring for all . May she Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. Well done, good and faithful servant.

We are so very sorry to hear of Lois' passing. She was a kind and loving person. Her son Bradley was in our home many times with our son, David. We love the Akins family and pray for God's Blessings on them in their time of sorrow.
