1SG Arthur L. Hayes, Sr., a United States Army Veteran who served his country with honor and distinction, passed away on September 14th, 2023, at the age of 90. He was born on July 26th, 1933, in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
Arthur was drafted into the US Army in 1954, embarking on a remarkable journey of service that spanned over two decades. His unwavering commitment to duty took him across continents, as he served both stateside and overseas with the US Forces in Europe. Arthur's military career was marked by exemplary achievements, and he earned numerous awards and accolades throughout his service. Notably, he was celebrated as an expert marksman, showcasing his exceptional skill and dedication to the armed forces.
Beyond his military service, Arthur had a deep love for dogs and was a passionate Ravens football fan. He cherished every moment spent watching his beloved team and eagerly awaited game days with enthusiasm. Another great source of joy in his life was receiving photographs of his cherished family members. These photographs served as a testament to his enduring love and connection with his loved ones.
Arthur, known by his family and friends as “Dickie”, leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He is survived by his two sons, Arthur L. Hayes, Jr. and Sanford E. Hayes, and their loving wives Giuliana and LaVonda. He will also be dearly missed by his adoring grandchildren, Sara Hayes, Sanford E. Hayes, Jr. and his wife Fenelle, and Tamara Beger and her husband Aaron. Arthur's memory will continue to be cherished by his great-grandchildren, Donquavious T. Wright, Sanford Xavier Hayes, Leila Roz, Alexander Roz, Christopher Beger, and Isaac Beger.
A ceremony to celebrate the life of Arthur Hayes will be held at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, MD, where friends and family will gather to pay their respects and share cherished memories. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with full military honors at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD, alongside fellow servicemen and women who answered the call of duty.
The Hayes family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their condolences and well wishes during this difficult time. His memory will forever inspire us to live with the same dedication, honor, and love that he demonstrated throughout his remarkable life.
