Donald Kessler Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald L. Kessler Sr., 84, of Pasadena, who left us on April 4, 2025. Born on April 9, 1940, in Fayette County, West Virginia, Donald lived a life of dedication, hard work, and passion.
Donald moved to Maryland, where he worked on farms in Pasadena before proudly serving in the Army National Guard. Following his service, he became a lifelong member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 51 Local #1, where he was a member for over 65 years. Donald later started his own successful commercial wall covering business, beautifying homes and businesses throughout his career. He eventually retired to care for his beloved wife.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Donald was a talented and established musician. He played the fiddle, guitar, and mandolin, and was deeply passionate about bluegrass music. Donald was a member of many bands and, for several years, earned the title of **MD State Fiddle and Mandolin Champion**. His love for music touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of hearing him play.
He enjoyed traveling throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland. He especially enjoyed visiting Deep Creek Lake in October during the Autumn Glory Festival.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, June, and brother Dean. He is survived by his brother Charles David and sisters Judy, Evelyn, Janice, Karen, and Valinda, two children, James (Jackie) Kessler and Donald (Carrie) Kessler Jr., his partner Carol Horton, grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald's legacy of hard work, music, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at Stallings Funeral Home on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 10:00am to 2:00pm followed by an interment at Glen Haven Memorial Park. Musicians please feel free to bring instruments to play during the visitation.
