Elizabeth Herling Obituary

Elizabeth Anna (Jentile) Herling of Glen Arm, went Home on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, just 11 days shy of her 104th birthday. Betty was born in Philadelphia, the beloved daughter of the late Guiseppe and Pasqualina Jentile; she was the loving, caring mother of Susan Herling Doyle; devoted mother-in-law of the late Michael (Mick) Doyle; and dear sister-in-law to Camille Gentile. She is survived by many great nieces and nephews of the Herling and Jentile families; and by many of her extended Doyle family who cherished her as Miss Betty. Betty grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania. In 1944, she graduated from training at Mercer Hospital in Trenton New Jersey, and had a long and dedicated career as a Registered Nurse. She moved to Maryland in 1945, beginning work at Ft. Howard Veterans Hospital. In the early 1950's she became accredited as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse, and spent much of her career working for Bendix Radio in Towson and Social Security in Woodlawn. Betty was a loving mother, devoted family member, joyful Dog Mom, and treasured friend. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and helping in any way she was asked. Her dedication to volunteering at the Seven Oaks Senior Center in Perry Hall reflected her selfless nature and desire to bring comfort and companionship to others. Betty was a truly special person-her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting that donations be made either to The Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connelly Road, Fallston MD 21047 or to the charity of your choice. Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM in the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 13305 Long Green Pike, Hydes Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. William (Bill) Foley, will follow at 10:30 AM, with interment in St. John Cemetery after the Mass.
