George Vincent, Jr. Obituary

George Eugene Vincent, Jr. of Bowie, Maryland, peacefully passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, after a long illness. George was born November 18, 1944, in Easton, Pennsylvania to George E. Vincent, Sr. (decd.) and Dorothy J. (decd.) of Phillipsburg, NJ, Episcopalians of St. Luke’s Church.

After attending Phillipsburg High School (1962), he graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy (1967) and did further graduate studies at the University of Maryland. He spent his career as a pharmacist, first at Drug Fair (1967–1969); and then the rest of his professional life at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD (1969–2000).

George met “the love of his life” Ro (Kemp) in Boston, in 1966; they married in 1967 at St. Patrick’s Church in Stoneham, MA; later becoming a subsequent disciple of Catholicism.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosemary S. Vincent, of Bowie, MD, and his four sons: George E. III, of Charlottesville, VA, Ted, of Crofton, MD, Rob, of New York, NY, and Kevin, of Baldwin, MD. He was at first, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchellville, and then a founding member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Bowie, MD.

He is also survived by his two daughters-in-law: Lisa (Ted) and Maria (Kevin); eight grandchildren: Mae, Navah, Keren, Theo, Seveyah, Ruben, Kara, and Yael, in addition to his loving brother Eugene G. Vincent (Nancy), of San Antonio, TX; two sisters-in-law: Bettina, of Riverview, FL, and Beverly (Jerry, decd.), of Waco, TX, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished neighbors/friends throughout the country and Canada.

He was an avid woodworker, troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America, animal devotee (Daisy “the cat”), hunter and fisherman, boater, and ham radio enthusiast. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for seventeen years; was an active member in the Knights of Columbus; and volunteer with the Army Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS).

God speed.

Rosemary, I am so very sorry for the passing of your beloved husband, George. He will be missed my many but will always remain in the hearts, minds and prayers of all you had the privilege to have known him. I will pray for the repose of his soul and for you and your family as you go through thus difficult time in your life. Tis better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all. Mark Bary, Friend and Army MARS State Director for MD/DC

April 23, 2025

I was introduced to George through the Navy /Marine Corps MARS program during the 80's. When that service was "sunset" in 2015, he and I both moved to the Army MARS program. He served as the Training Officer for MD/DC from that time until now. As his Army MARS State Director, I was indebted to him for his support in keeping track of the required training for new members, guiding them during their training, and the new training required for all members as it rolled out.
He was also a friend. I visited he and Rosemary many times over the years and lent a hand with his radio and antenna systems when he needed.
We also chatted about his many trips to Canada for fishing, as well as some chats about our shared interest in firearms and the shooting sports.
I will miss him, not just for those times that we saw each other in person, but also hearing his voice on the MARS nets. He was a very frequent attendee on the daily nets, not just for MD/DC, but also for some daily National nets. Over the years, he frequently received recognition for accumulating well over 1,000 hours of participation on-air on the nets during the year.
I wish Rosemary and his extended family peace, and that they know that he is missed by his many friends and associates in the Amateur Radio community, as well as the MARS family.
