James David Braswell
August 14, 1935 – May 26, 2025
James David Braswell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and proud public servant, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on August 14, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, James was the beloved son of Courtney Braswell and Dorothy Rosentengel. He was raised with strong values of integrity, service, and humility that guided him throughout his life.
James served honorably in the United States Air Force for four years before beginning a distinguished 37-year career with the National Security Agency (NSA), where his work contributed meaningfully to national security with steadfast dedication.
On March 7, 1959, James married the love of his life, Janet. Their 66-year marriage was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and family devotion. Together, they raised seven children: Larry (Ellen), Jimmy (Sandy), Bernedette (Rick), Mary Ruth (Frank), Maureen, Ellen and James (Kristin). James was a loving and committed father who led with quiet strength and wisdom.
He was a proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Michael, Thomas (Marjorie), Casey (Abby), Rachel (Cody), Corey, Shannon (Nick), Zach and Henry, a joyful great-grandfather to twelve great-grandchildren Ethan, Eric, Nina, Eva, Josephine, Jamison, Elias, Jago, Quinn, Letty, Finley and baby girl Braswell. His presence in their lives was a blessing, filled with patience, encouragement, and unconditional love.
James was also a cherished brother, remembered fondly for his kindness and steady support. He was preceded in death by his parents, Courtney and Dorothy; his brother, Richard; and his sister, Susie.
In retirement, James enjoyed spending time on the golf course, a game he loved for both its challenge and the friendships it brought him.
He is survived by his wife Janet, siblings Trilby, Bill and Lynn, his six children, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply and remember him with love and admiration.
A service will be held to honor his life at Sacred Heart Chapel on Friday June 6th, 2025. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in James’s name to Sacred Heart Chapel or a veteran’s charity of your choice.
James David Braswell will be remembered for a life of service, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family and country. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
