It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James O. Cope, beloved husband of the late Constance May Cope, who left us on May 11, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on December 22, 1931, James lived a life full of love, devotion, and service. He was a proud veteran of the Navy, having served during the Korean War, and he carried that sense of service into a fulfilling 34 year career as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his kindness and dedication.
James is survived by his devoted children: Pamela Wolfe and her husband Herbert, Brenda Foy and her husband Wes, Marsha Lieberman and her husband David, and Tracy Cope and his wife Tracey. He also leaves behind the legacy of his love as a cherished grandfather to ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. James was the last of James and Ada Cope's seven children, and his spirit will forever echo in the hearts of his family.
An avid reader, especially of James Patterson novels, and a self-taught musician, James brought joy to many through his talent, playing in the church band until 2022. He had an immense love for his garden, delighting in the cultivation of roses and the simple pleasure of cutting the grass. He was known for his delightful, personalized cards sent on birthdays and holidays, and he had a particular fondness for Whoppers from Burger King.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate James's remarkable life. Public viewings will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on May 19, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on May 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the North Point/Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department in James's memory. Scan the QR below in the photo gallery to donate.
As we gather to honor and remember an extraordinary man, we are grateful for the love and memories he shared with us all. James Cope will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
