It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our mother Jonell B. Urbaniak, who left us on Sunday, January 26, 2025 after a beautifully led life. Full of love, laughter and resilience, Jonell, Joni, Jo, Grammy touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jonell was born on June 5th, 1935 to France F. and Jeanette B. Baker in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Jonell was an only child but grew up with many relatives and friends whom she loved dearly. She met her husband Cecil (Joe) Urbaniak in kindergarten. They went on to marry and have three children. Joes career moved them from Columbus, OH to Charleston, WV and eventually settling in Lanham, MD in 1966 where Jonell was the quintessential homemaker and social butterfly while raising their three children. She later went on to work in medical care as a receptionist. Jonell moved to the Crofton/Gambrills area in 1997 where she continued working, traveling and spending time with family and friends. After retirement, she was a volunteer at Anne Arundel Medical Center for several years earning recognition for her service hours.
Jonell loved her family and was thrilled with each new addition. She is survived by her brother-in-law Dr James (Jim) Urbaniak (Muff) and sister-in-law Cecily (Steve) Winchell. She also leaves behind a son. Daughters Jan Lyn (Michael) Sondberg and Jill Ann (Tom) Green. Grandchildren Jennafer Sondberg, Hunter (Kelli) Sondberg, Matthew (Jessica) Green, Tyler (Jillian) Sondberg, Stephany (Danny) DePasquale and Adam Green. Great Grandchildren Zoe, Kristian and Jaxon Sondberg, Cameron and Kennedy Green, Wren Sondberg, Danny, Charlie and Wesley DePasquale.
Jonell was predeceased by her parents Francis and Jeanette Baker, husband Joe and grandson Hunter Kristian.
