Joseph "Joe" Byer passed away on July 20th, 2025. He was a son, brother, husband, dad and his favorite title a JoPa. Now what is a JoPa? A JoPa is a grandfather but more fun! You would often find him in a homemade JoPa shirt or a #1 JoPa hat. Pictures filled his phone and adorned his keychain. His love of cartoons and mascots kept him young at heart.
Although Joe had different jobs over the years from welding and working at Shock Trauma, his most loved job was at Towson University. He loved working the football and lacrosse games the most. Working may be a stretch; most of the time he was talking to people, cracking jokes, taking selfies with Doc the mascot, spreading that smile he had and helping out others.
He shared his home with his wife Terri of 43 years and their dog Wilson. Where they enjoyed neighborhood parties, cooking or as some would say burning dinner on the grill and gardening. Family birthday parties and yearly beach vacations held a special place in his heart. Even "adopting" friends as family and treating the kids like his own grandkids.
He leaves behind his loving wife Terri (Lowicki), their daughter Lindsay McCartney (Byer) and her husband Brendan, his grandchildren Ian, Connor and Nathan McCartney, daughter Stephanie Suddoth (Byer) and her husband James, son Brady Byer and his wife Rachel (Krakat), brother Patrick Byer, brother in-law Richard "Jimmy" Lowicki, nieces and nephews, grand-animals and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents Rae and Joe Byer and his daughter Hope.
The family will receive friends at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd. on Friday from 3-7 pm. In this time of remembrance, we reflect fondly on the many ways Joe touched our lives. His spirit will live on in the stories shared and the memories cherished by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the ASPCA as animals always had a place in Joe's heart.
