Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Kuhleman (née Piper) November 27, 1945 – September 21, 2025 Kathy Kuhleman, age 79, of Sykesville, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, surrounded by her children at home. Born on November 27, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Charles and Mary Piper, she was the second oldest of eight children. She was the wife of the late Roger Dean Kuhleman who died in 1990. They were married for almost 24 years. Kathy lived a full and meaningful life, always prioritizing family and friends. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand-dogs. Kathy had an insatiable appetite for learning, history, research, and reading. This led her to go back to school and graduate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 1985 with a degree in American Studies. After graduation she worked for ADVO Direct Mail Company, Harte Hanks, and finally ending up at Patuxent Publishing Company where she retired in June 2012. She was known for her dedication, work ethic, organization skills, and kindness. Kathy made the most of her retirement by attending her grandchildren's sporting and theatre events and spending time with friends, whether that be grabbing lunch, playing cards, planning social events, or exploring new hobbies together. Kathy is survived by her devoted children Christine Kathryn Lanni (Mark), Sharon Marie Smelser (David), and son William (Bill) Roger Kuhleman; seven grandchildren, Michael (Morgan), Melanie (Thomas), Adam (Sydney), Matthew [Sami], Joseph [Mary], Roger, and Christian; and two great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Judah. She is also survived by her siblings Jack Piper (Mary Kay), Monica Silkaitis (Ron), and Phil Piper (Kathy), and her sister-in-law Judy Gates (Don) along with numerous nieces and nephews and devoted friends. She was predeceased by her siblings: Sheila Stanczak (John), Art Piper, Charlie Piper, Valerie Rader, and her sister-in-law Jeannine Haffele (Eldon). Her family will forever cherish Kathy's warmth, generosity, and the unwavering love she gave. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Kathy's legacy of love, quiet strength, and perseverance lives on in her family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Haight Funeral Home in Sykesville, Maryland (6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville MD 21784). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 1, at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg MD 21784). Interment will be private.
